I just started a new game, and after moving to the 2nd sector of the starting town, I got the first cutscene in the Palace, and Elliot had a "Not Done" portrait (which also happened when i tried talking to a nameless villager), and Dredianna had the face of some biker along with song of his dialogue (i . imgur . com / cZxJPui . png) and respective voice lines. Dredianna's dialouge also got replaced with some of Elliot's lines, and none of Elliot's lines had voice at all. The faces also artifacted when they talked.
The game is installed on a 5200RPM external hard drive connected via USB 2.0, i5-2320, Msi Radeon HD7770, 6GB RAM, Windows 10; I changed a few of the settings in the ini editor, but none outside of maximum values (mostly changed some True/False settings) and enabled v-sync.
I also set JA2.exe to 16-bit color with compatibility settings so I can run windowed.

edit: it might be unrelated but i also get this error report
