Enemy morale failure and disbanding[message #353186] Tue, 17 April 2018 00:58 Go to previous message

(I am not sure if there is such a feature in the newer versions - I am currently playing 7609 with sevenfm's improved AI mod.)

What I find frustrating and unrealistic is that enemies fight till death and do not run away or get disbanded even if there are overwhelming odds against them. Or if I remember correctly, in some versions of v1.13 a couple of remaining soldiers retreat to adjacent maps - which then gets quite tedious to hunt them down.

For instance, it would be really nice if we could have some kind of morale failure and disbanding mechanic. Disbanded enemy forces means that they disappear from the strategic map and return to the forcepool of the queen to be spawned into regiments with some time delay - i.e. couple of weeks. Disbanding in this sense is a much more convenient feature compared to enemies running away and retreating to adjacent maps.

Disbanding could work under such conditions:

1) If the enemy forces incur a large amount of losses in a very short time, say 70% of their forces on the map get destroyed under 5 rounds, they have morale failure and get disbanded. This also provides an incentive for aggressive blitzkrieg tactics.

2) If the enemy forces get outnumbered with a ratio of 5 to 1, they will offer to surrender (and thus can be taken as prisoners, which is already a feature) or they get disbanded. The chance whether they will surrender or disband depends on the highest leadership merc on the field. The higher leadership, higher chance of surrender.

Other morale-breaking aspects could be significant number of deaths due to mustard gas, a lot of deaths with explosives, cumulative high number of shock levels of the enemies (for instance after two rounds of artillery strike) etc. I am not sure if these can be implemented though happy
