Are Quests Tied to Specific Sectors?[message #10009]

I was wondering, are all the quests tied to specific sectors?

I tried moving the Fatima takes you to the rebel hideout quest to another sector. While she starts off the same way, once she takes you to the adjacent sector she just starts telling you she is a busy woman instead of taking you to Dimitri (who is present in the new sectors).

I copied the Proedit and Beta Editor settings exactly except of course for sector locations. She is set to Stay in Sector in her timetable settings and is Stationary/Defensive in her basic settings. Is there maybe some advanced hacking I have to do to find additional settings?

One weird thing is when I liberate Omerta town loyalty only raises to 1%. I should also add that I've placed her and the whole quest in the wilderness.

Any ideas?

Hate to flog this dying horse again, but does anyone know if you can even change the sector map for the Fatima quest without screwing it up?
I gave in and tried just leaving the quest alone but putting it into my new maps and it still doesn't work.
She now takes the letter, goes to A10 then move a little way down the road and stops.
I've tried most everything and kept her settings exactly the same. It occours to me now, maybe instead of Stationary/Defensive I should assign her Round Point Patrol and send her Dimitri's way hoping this picks the trigger back up.
I don't think this will work but I think I've tried just about everything.

If anyone knows how to maintain the Rebel Hideout quest with an altered sector I'd really like to hear it.

I changed Fatima's script (text only so far) but did not remove any of her lines or add any. I just overwrote them with new dialouge. The new dialouge version of Fatima works fine unless I move the sector she travels to away from A10.
In other words, I've got everything to work with her when I place her in a new sector but when she leaves that sector and travels to the new adjacent sector (which I also placed to the east of the new sector I put her in) she arrives, but then just stands there and tells me she'd like to talk more but she's a busy woman.
I've placed Dimitri in this sector and even went so far as to place him, her, pacos and the exit grid on their respective grid numbers.

I've tried to adjust her placement orders to make her walk to the grid number close to Dimitri hoping this would trigger his part of the quest.
Heck I've maybe tried everything under the sun.

All I want to do is move her quest to another sector to tie in with the storyline I have drafted.

An interesting thing that happens is even after I whack the enemy in sector A9 (without hitting any civillians) town loyalty remains at zero. Of course when Fatima is present in A9 every thing works like it should. With this in mind I even tried leaving Pacos in A9 to try to trigger the loyalty part.
I'm beginning to think this first quest is not very flexable. Looking at UC's Proedit list I noticed Fatima's and Pacos' slots are UNUSED? This is maybe a clue to what the mod squad had to do to make an adjustment with this first quest but being somewhat dense I can't figure what this is.

All I'm trying to do is move this quest and thereby slow the beginning progression down a little bit. I can change the storyline or explain my way around this problem but it would be so much better to be able to fix this.

I really hope all the quests aren't so ridgedly coded. I was really hoping to make some changes that would really provide a new storyline instead of new dialouge superimposed over the same game.
If this isn't possible I'm still not giving up. I think I may have a few tricks that will at least give the illusion of new story progression. But this all remains to be seen.

Any insight or even hunches you may have I'm open to try.

It just occoured to me that the one thing I haven't tried is to simply leave out an exit grid in my new 'A10 type' replacement (or in other words the sector that Fatima walks to when you give her the letter).
In the original game, the exit grid doesn't even appear unless Dimitri gives you the o.k. In my new map I assigned an exit grid on the same grid number that the original exit grid is. Maybe that screwed something up.
Hope that last bit wasn't too confusing.
If I'm successful I'll definately post how I did it here.

Fatima's & Pacos walk from A9 to A10 is hard coded so your stuck with that routine.

Fatima was unused in UC due to that inflexibility though it was easily possible to do what you suggest ... overwrite her lines to make the quest appear different but it's a huge resource eater to record waves for 5 characters.

In a WW2 mod she could be a resistance contact leading player to Maquis basement hideout in A10 or similar.
If you overwrite her & the other participants lines it will work but seeing it's a several characters interaction ... serious volume of work.

Thanx alot Bearpit. Now I can stop beating my head on the wall about this.

If she has to be in A9 then has to walk to A10 I'll either have to change the dialouge (which is easy in this case since I've only changed her text) or leave her out alltogether.
I wonder how the Mod Squad got that quest to work without her and Pacos existing in the game? Which would then beg the question of how you then include Dimitri Miguel and Carlos with a missing part of the quest's 'thread'?

It's likely I will change all those character's dialouge. I have a really good sound card and am fortunate enough to know a lot of folks that are brilliant when it comes to mixing and such. I'm going to tackle this one character at a time one quest at a time. It would have been a disaster if I did a bunch of work assuming that I could move the Fatima quest to another sector only to later find out I couldn't.

Thanx alot for saving me the hair pulling.

If anyone knows of a list of which quests require specific sectors/items/previous quests or whatever for them to work properly it would save me a lot of time in the future. I think I've mined LotB for everything on the subject so anywhere else you could point me to (that's in English) would be cool.

Maria rescue from Shady Lady.

Has anyone observed what happens if players is discovered sneaking Maria out of building ..... do Kingpins faction shoot at her or only at mercs.

If anyone has a savegame near that spot & can test such a scenario .... would be appreciated.

Also .... would Billy attack her if she leaves the room ??

Yes they shoot at her(merc assimilated).Although they seem to prefer armed mercs.Billy shoots at her,after saying his usual "you are gonna get it" line.
