First of all, hello hello, I'm new here! Well... I've been kinda lurking here for about 2 years but I haven't exactly been the biggest poster.
Anyway, I have a bunch of ideas which could be nice to do with the code. First of all I'll start with the more obvious stuff:
-Remove random limits. Let the user create bigger maps and stuff like that. Having support for taller maps would be really nice as well.
-Make the game more easily expandable, make adding new weapons and new mercs more easy for modders. (not sure how it's done right now, but if it's easy enough already then just ignore what I just said )
-Revert the code to it's former self... I haven't used all that much time looking through the code, but the code was shipped with Wildfire, does that mean there's changes in code for the Wildfire mod? If so it would be nice to have a better basis to work with, unless we want to be modding Wildfire instead of JA2.
-Combine JA2 and JA2UB... this is another thing I'm not certain of, does the code include any code for JA2UB? It would be very nice integrate the two games, so when you start a game you could select either to play JA2 or the addon, it would help simplify things and should help modders too.
More ambitious ideas:
-Scenario mode, something like JADG, where you can create single scenarios and play them, the JA2 demo map would be a perfect scenario to add to this. Another neat addition to this would be a high score list system to give it more replayability.
-Record demos, this would simply just be neat and great. And JA2 being turnbased it shouldn't be *that* hard to make, that just depends on how you make it, either record every single little thing like bullet trajectors, the advantage with that is that future compatability is easy. Or make it record only orders to mercs, the advantage with that is smaller sizes for the recordings.
-And a super obvious one... multiplayer. In my opinion, this is a must in the long run. It would simply be awesome, and could also be integrated with the scenario feature above so users can create multiplayer scenarios. A first step to this should be making the gameplay code for multiplayer and add simplistic hotseat support, from there we could start to add the network code, and since this is a turnbased game the netcode doesn't have to be that much optimized, it just have to work.
By the way, I might want to join the coding project personally some time, I have a good deal of experience in C, and while I'm not the greatest programmer I think I could be of some assistance.
-Remi
