Was wondering if someone might find the time to look into this one. Little difficult to explain but I'll try.

It seems if you don't have a direct line of sight to a target(greyed out) the game isn't check if the line of fire is blocked? You can be prone behind a solid object like boulders or sandbags and your bullets just pass through like it's non-solid. The AI exploits it quite a bit too, saw it alot in SOG 69 the AI would start prone behind a boulder then crouch>prone>fire.

Hope that made sense.

Hm. There's some code which is supposed to simulate the ability of people to put their guns on top of a relatively low obstacle and fire over it... and (I forget for sure) allow them to see/be seen past those. But it's obviously a bug if the rock actually does block LOS but allow bullets.

I don't think I've seen this bug.

It's pretty easy to test using the cheatcodes. Just put you're merc's standing behind some sandbags or other barrier then generate a badguy and go prone so you know his location. Even though you lose your LOS you'll still get the red crosshair and you're bullets will go through the obstacle like it's not even there.

I'm seeing the same thing from sandbags, rocks and the debris/wrecked cars in Omerta. Walls seem to work like they should. Using version 1.12US now but I saw the same thing in 1.06US and 1.07US.

You don't have to be next to the barrier. Same thing happens even if you're few squares behind it. So it may not be the part of the code you were thinking of Chris???

I think it's an issue with certain structure descriptors, rather than a tactical engine bug. I've long ago noticed that sandbags are odd - someone needs to check their JSDs. Same issue with certain rocks.

Sandbags seem to work better in 1.12 than they did in 1.07. IIRC you could see through a lot them. I was trying to fix that with Batman's JSD utility and that's when I noticed the ability to fire through them ONLY if you don't have a LOS.

If it is a JSD issue any idea on why it only happens when you don't have a LOS? If you're using the same obstacle for cover(crouching) it works like it should and stops bullets. That's why I assumed it was something in the engine like it wasn't checking the LOF when you didn't have a LOS.
