I have a small technical question if i may. Does Wildfire support the Martial Arts trait? I have seen NPCs using kicks, and so forth but when my character tries to fight using the trait she simply stands still. The time clock spirals, then control is returned, but no damage or movement occurred and no action points were used. It is as if the animation file for martial arts is missing. Hand-to-Hand, Knife fighting all work quite well.

I would appreciate any help that you could give me.I truly love your game, it is difficult, challenging, just the way it should be. You are forced to use Tactics as opposed to Equipment to solve combat situations.

Thank you for your help,

Yalura

You answered your own question, there are no animations for martial arts for the female body type. Unless in Wildfire they claim to have added them MA is not available for the female IMP/mercs.

You must have used an editor to get the MA trait on your imp?

Thank you for your reply.

It is tough being a girl in an all guy gaming world! Smile

I understand now. I wish someone could show me how to create a female martial arts animation.
Until then, I shall take on the world with my little knife.

Thanks again, and yes I used Jape to add Martial Arts.

Take Care,

Yalura

The only way is to draw it, frame by frame, and insert it into the game data archives, and then have the Whitehat guys enable MA skill for female mercs.

Save yourself the headache and use a knife. Or a crowbar if you wanna knock'em out. :headbanger:

Greetings again gentlemen,

I went and created a very handsome male mercenary. Made him strong, agile, dextrous, and then gave him martial arts. The same thing happened. He stands still, the clock moves, no damage, no action points used. My opponent kicked me to pieces. I think I have a bug, but I do not know where to start looking.

Perhaps in my game files somewhere the player martial arts animations are all broken. Does anyone know what these files are called? Or have any advice for a poor empty-handed fighting farm girl?

Thank you again,

Yalura

Hey Yalura,

I love MA myself, and my first ever IMP was MA/NO by going thru the questions and answering them as myself! Very Happy This is also why I love Dr. Q and Blood!

ps I apologize for the completely unfun and unemotional response I provided above, very unlike me -- I must have been tired :whoknows:

Greetings again,

Thank you, I shall go and try this right now. Yes my male fighter 'Dragon' has 85 str, and a large body type. I will let you know how this works.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.

cheers,

Yalura

Thanks all, it worked!

Not only did I get martial arts, I got it without Jape, from answering questions! The Strength requirement seems to be 60. I thought I had it fiured out how to do it all of the time, but it seems it is a random trait, once you qualify. I went back a second time, same questions, body, voice and th trait did not show up.

The animations work perfectly. I am very happy.

Just in case anyone wants to repeat my experiment her are the specifics that got me the trait the first time (remember it seems to be random):

Questions: 1,2,1,2,4,2,4,1,2,3,5,1,3,4,1,1
Portrait: 2
voice: 2
Sex: Male (grrr, but hey he is cute!)

Attributes: hlth :85 Agl:85 dex:85 str:60 ldr:35 wis:85 mark:50 mech:35 exp:35 med:35

I do not know if all of these factors matter, but that is what I did. Also, I usually play Wildfire on Expert, Ironman, but for this experiment I had it on Novice, normal.

Thank all of you for your help and great advice. If anyone ever creates a red-headed fighting female animation, let me know!

be at peace,

Yalura

the only female I assigned MA to (using ProEdit) is Scope, because she is supposed to be ex-special forces and it seemed more suitable than "Teaching". Of course she had to have the "regular male" body-type - but she looks a bit butch, so it seems to fit. Even so, there is no problem imagining her as a woman (but a tough one) due to her voice/face.

Who says special forces guys/gals are trained in martial arts?
They're trained in killing with their hands, true enough, but that doesn't mean their taught wireless-wirefu.

Wasn't Demni Moore a Seal

GI Jane (hahahahaha, yeah right)

As far as I know, women don't serve in Spec Forces (ie SASR, Royal Marines etc)

Could be wrong but I doubt it Wink

Ewok01 you are quite correct! There are no SAS/SBS/Marines Girls but there are agents who are female who work in conjunction at times.

So Scope's character should be modified to be a K (Special Agent) for MI5/6.
