The thread is about any sort of artwork meaning graphics, audio and video particuliarly stuff that deosn`t fall into other categories

small info:

the new strategic map is being worked on, i haven`t yet received the latest version though

loadscreens are being worked on

Sound, especially recorded speech is being worked on too

what hasn`t yet been designed is video, intro outro stuff as well as custom sounds outside the normal dialgoue

that`s by the way how the main menu currently looks like

http://img328.imageshack.us/img328/6573/trailerpr4.jpg

Pretty old shool, but the topic on the spot :ok:

i`m not going to release the custom music though, as it`s most probably not everybody`s :bravo: taste :bravo:

Well as long as your music is not country, opera, bluegrass, new age, yodeling, rap, hiphop, elavator music, latin, then i am all ears. Razz

Your intro music could be the "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead. :rulez:

Grrr...fresh meat. Smile
Hope you like that angelic type girl, marble carnation, that I sent as 211. Very Happy

Yes, the latina-type girl you sent looks great, and has just about the right "pissed-off, don't mess with me" attitude!Helas, the picture is not fitted at all for any of the female IMP coordinates,I made the re-offset/adjustments and result is rather bad.210 was the primary candidate for replacement for me.I'll see what I can do,but she must be deformed slightly, which is...
The blonde sais nothing to me though, and I can't imagine her with any of the 3 voices.

BTW, is the "mainmenubackround" looking ok in game?Looks a little garbled towards the top left corner, did I miss that or it's just that it is in higher than 640x480 dimension?

the RPC`s are taken, faces made, so coordinates don`t matter too much as only bfaces are needed, which can be adjusted in proedit

off course AE faces...

the girl you sent me is a bit weird because of the upper part of the head missing in the bface...

the problem in the top left corner is the 256 colours and the jpeg. For me it`s acceptable the way it is now, but we can always improve it and see how mcuh of the improvement transforms into the game.

the blonde`s face is nowhere as matching as the other one, i agree

Mhm, so only one face to do then.
Funny, there is no Bface for the "211" girl, as it was designed as IMP girl replacement, with those coordinates. If you want one, it can be done at much better quality without those coordinates restrictions.
Same goes for the gipsy char.

lol girl pics loadscreens... now that would be a crowd pleaser no?

however these loadscreens are limited to 256 colours so i guess even the nicest chick would look like having skin problems on such a loadscreen ;-(

no the latina girl might become an NPC

did i already mention i made it possible to have sex with some female NPCs?

do people have moral objections against that?

Mrr,of course you can do it,is it worthy?
Optional is the middle way.
http://xrmb2.net/img/images/594419.jpeg http://xrmb2.net/img/images/831701.jpeg
Just to keep you guys salivating.
These are currently working and tested IMP faces(bigfaces shown here), but mind they might still not make it into the game as they are now.
Scorp,I promise to make a very interesting girl NPC face, just leave the latina as 209 IMP girl, I think I'm in love. Razz
There's been a discussion about photo-style images not being fit to the JA2 game.I'm sure(with some help) we could even achieve images like the original ones,comparable texture and style;
The Scorpion already went to extensive lengths in that direction,to achieve that for RPCs.
And basicly said that he' ready to make a little compromise for the babes, as there are so few of them in the game.
Opinions?
Hints?

nothing compared to the voice samples of some of our higher quality recordings. plus, we can have loadscreens as a special optional download for those who don`t have any bandwith issues (like 1.13 they did that there as well, not a bad idea)

those look damn great i think

I hope you don't mind if some of the images I send you are just sketches for the time being.
For example, between the "gitano" face I sent initially and this one

I really dig the loadscreen images and the 'Olmos' looking Balkan dude is right on the money in terms of fitting in with existing Ja2 face .stis.

I think every attempt should be made to make new faces in the same style as existing ones unless maybe you plan to do the entire folder. You're off to a great start guys. Keep it commin.

Who's "Olmos"?
Hey,Khor your input was much awaited here, at least by me.
As said before, the (many) faces already made by The Scorpion match the original faces. We don't want to break with tradition(for example AIM faces will stay the same at least that's the way we discussed things)
Let's hope that our skills match the task.

ATM we're still digging for some interesting photos, for the few remaining loadscreens and faces; my task seems to be to spread chaos into Scorpion's skedule and projects, buzzing him all the time and exasperating him with my desordered way of working.

hey, disordered way of working is my second name...

Khor

thus far, we have some 50+ custom faces kept in very close similarity to original ja2 faces

exceptions are for girls obviously, characters from other games (cameo appearances) and for the stuff AZ sends me, cuz even from photos pics can still "fit in" to a great extent

Olmos seems to be an actor looking similar to our tsigane Smile

i have the opinion that on loadscreens, photos look better than on faces or tiles because no other graphics interfere. I`ve found some mods to use awful faces of actors or from movie posters while around them, they had a map loaded with those 256 color - stylized tiles... that was just... not fitting

but loadscreens don`t conflict with tiles or faces or guns/ items so they are perfect for hi-res beatiful nature pics Wink

The loadscreens can look as photogenic as you want since they're a different group than the other images. Youres look great.

By the way, if you'd like any help making your sleeved shirt body type please let me know. I know how to do this but the ammount of work involved made it impossible for me to contribute until I at least come off of my honeymoon.

Sorry for the delay getting back scorp, we were in the mountains and to Canada over the last few days and didn't even look at a computer until now.

I expect to get into some animations in the next few days. I'd like to know that there was some way to code these new animations in but for my mod I'll probably just replace all the existing ones anyway so I can use these as well.

No joke, I was married last weekend and had to do some serious celebrating over the last week. I'm looking foreward to seeing this mod and will let you know when I have something done.

the hair and eyes and nose look like "Al Bundy"

in fact that would make a fun character. A trader who'd sell shoes and curse about his wife and kids all the time. hehehehehe

Khor

congrats. Don't work too hard in the next days, your wife might get a bit dissapointet if you're too much into ja2 so shortly after honeymoon. But that you know better yourself. Congrats again.

yes, atm i don't think they can add another bodytype so i did them for an existing bodytype. They're not as perfect as the original ones and need tweaking here and there, but they're for sure a change once in a while.

Hi GRIK.
Everything I posted here comes from the BMPs saved by the stiview program(in fact, they probably look worse than the STIs in game.
Your Bundy, does he have the same provenience? If so,I'm very interested on how you achieved that-perhaps we can make notes about what we do and in what order, with what tools, and compare them.
Your texture and colours seem much closer to the original than mine.

'Bundy' looks like a composite image. This is achieved by placing one image on top of the other and using the erase feature (after you've matched the skin tones as closely as you can which is the tricky part).

With this technique you can crank out 'new' faces that are in perfect harmony with existing Ja2 faces. Use cloning and interactive warp to further customise your faces and you can truly make very new looking faces.

Having this character seems perfectly in line with Ja's humour and would be a real kick.
Nice work.

Yeah, knew about the technique, and saw that,
I'm just not interested in it.Only texture-colour bynome.

Fact is some of my mouth animations are still a little approximative, coming from the picture itself.
Though I bet you didn't guess "Mr. Almost" was biting his mustache in the original photo!Elementary, now that you were told, isn't it? Wink
Wander if the voice matches such a mouth.

Buying Photshop still looks an overkill for me, using the freeware "PhotoFiltre"(Antonio da Cruz) at the moment.
Just about the same features, much less resources eaten that in all of Adobe's products-absolutely comparable results.
A great viewer and image editor, if only a new STI editor could have half its functions and not screw colours all the time, we could make images like the original without having to use those kind of manoeuvres.

About Al...I think one has to be American or of a different cut in order to actually like that kind of humour. No offense meant, yeah,it might even be fun for some quick seconds.

Ah yes, welcome to the club of freshly tamed horses that also got horseshoes()Saturday night is no more "the loneliest night of the week", eh?

PS:About release date:it is not even close as far as I know, but you can be sure there's no planning on delivering prematurely.
Not without much playtesting anyway.
What, could I miss on the chance to be one of the first to bitch about pretty much everything that The Scorpion does? Very Happy
It is his mod, from what I hear it may well be a masterpiece. Smile
Personally, I find it very hard to work with him, to be half kept in the dark. Many pieces of the puzzle are still unknown to me, subject to changes all the time(as you can see, he can be transparent and still keep his stuff camuflaged)Seems in high gear all the time, too.
I'm just steping on it and making waves around here before September comes, and RL work begins.

I'm using Photosuite III. It has just about every feature I'd want (except maybe an .STI palette conversion feature which would be sweet = just kidding I'm pretty sure no such tool exists) but the two things it lacks (and I'm not sure if Photoshop even has them) are an xy coordinate counter or any kind of pixel counter and a dual image workspace. If I want to work on two images (cloning or just comparison imaging) I have to place them both on a big blank background. This is unweildy because if I alter the colour values or any other whole image touchup it changes both images so it is difficult to match skin tones or colour values.

I was wondering if photoshop or any other software does these things and am reluctant to fork over $120 until I know for sure.

Thanx for the welcome into the freshly tamed horses stable. My horseshoes fit nicely which is weird because I never imagined or wished for such things until I met her.

Al Bundy is perhaps an aquired taste but loaded with enough bufoonery to appeal to just about anyone. His immediate recognition would provide a kick in my opinion.

It is imperative to the quality of a mod that someone steps up and points out the mistakes before they make it into the final product. The fact the scorpion is keeping you in the dark reminds me of the way I work with people on the little project I have going. I know it can be frustrating to them but there are two very good reasons for doing it this way:

1) If I'm even a little undecided as to the answer to their question I might deliberately evade it until I've reached a solid conclusion. In the mean time I can hear their ideas and maybe glean something of value from this.

2) Unless someone is definately commited to my mod 'team' I feel some things are on a need to know basis. This ensures both the spontanuity of idea flow and the freshness of the mod once it is put out.

I don't know if either of these are concerns for scorp and he does not need to respond but they are reasons I do it. I have lost all momentum for my own project at the moment but hope to get it back sometime.
In the mean time I hope to scrape enough time from my week to assist in any way to what I'm sure will be a great project here. There are still many repairs I need to make to the house I just bought before the winter comes but I can't work on that all the time and expect to have at least a few hours a week to do some animations or whatever.
