I was thinking of writing a little utility to extract all the game data (ie bitmaps and stuff). I need to know how it is stored internally in the data files. I looked through the source briefly, but was unable to find the data-loading code. Can anyone help me out?

What data exactly are you trying to extract and from what files?

Mainly all the image files. Ie tiles, game screens, sprites etc. I suppose it would be nice to extract all the audio files too.

No need to create your own, when this handy little program that Shed23 turned me onto will extract everything from JA2 that you want. Get it here.

That's cool. But I would like to write a util nonetheless. Seems the files are stored in a standard format?
