How do merc relationships work? What kind of bonuses get added?
And is there a way to see who likes/learns to like who (maybe some kind of chart) ?

You can check it out with a program called proedit. There is a lot of effects from friendships and hatred. Some mercs won't join, some mercs won't extend their contract, some will just leave, some will like to work for you because you have their friends on the team and so on.

What I usually do is, decide on a merc that really HAS to be on the team, open proedit and hire their friends. There is some interesting combos available.

Raven-Hitman-Cougar is kind of funny, because everything is fine when they start
and
Ivan-Igor-Iggy-Grunty is nice for the end-game.

If you have 2 mercs who like each other in the same sector their moral goes up.
Now im not sure, but i think ive read somewhere that moral affects alot of things, like chance to hit and mercs overall performance. But i cant say this for certain, just that i think ive read about it.
What i do know is that if mercs have high morale they will continue to work for you if you want to expand their contract. And its vice versa if they have low morale, supposedly also have lower performance with low morale, but again not sure on that since i have never had problems with morale myself.

Also if you got two mercs liking each other they comment each other from time to time, like when you have Ice and Magic in a battle togheter and Ice kills a guy, Magic says "The Iceman breaks through again".
If mercs hate each other they may refuse to work togheter, their morale will go down and some may even quit.

If you go to your Ja2 folder and from there to Data->Binary Data youll see an icon named PROEDIT.
Open it up and youll can see alot of different stuff about the aim merc's and the npc's including who the merc's like or hate.

Awesome, I never realized they had these friendship/hate things built in, I would always just get a bunch of random mercs, whose stats seemed the best. However, I noticed how Magic and Ice would always give each other compliments, and that got me wondering.

I'll start and make some cool squads... Russians, Fidel/Haywire/Razor (bunch of pyschos Very Happy

) wolf/grizzly/fox come to mind... I think this adds a whole new dimension to the game.

Yeah, Raider he was...That love triangle of theirs is pretty much fun.
Magic Blood and Ice are also good friends but I never really heard Magic praising his buddies...except that he speaks when they perish.

The relationship system makes this game unique.

When a merc's friend die, they express themselves. But when their enemies die they don't.
This is the only thing I miss about it.

This is not true... I have heard Raven comment about kills Raider makes, Spider commenting on Statics performance and Magic and Ice praising each other when they do something good.

Although it doesn't happen very often...

You misunderstood there, what Caboclo meant was that when an "enemy" (one the merc don't like) dies you won't hear that enemy say something.

An example would be:

Raider and Hitman in one team
Hitman dies
Raider says "Great, now I can have my wife to myself!"

This does not happen and that is what Caboclo meant, I must admit it, I miss it too.

The rebels all have great lines about each other. Imho the best being stuff like Carlos "For a woman Ira is most capable" and Miguel "Ira you are full of surprises". The lines upon a rebel death are pretty neat too. Carlos again on the death of Dimitri "It be sad but I must say I am surprised he lasted this long!"

After having Shadow in my team, I decided to hire Grizzly. Apparently, Grizzly conciders Shadow to be one of his best buds. I've yet to see if Shadow feels the same.

Grizzly and Bull have a little moment when one of them dies..
I can't remember which one, but when one dies the other says something to the effect of
"don't worry, i'll look after your wife and kids".. in a compassionate way, not a seedy way.
