Last time I posted in this forum was back in 2001. I looked up my old posts most of them have to do with Batman's release of JA2DL. I was testing attachments at the time. My old account is probably dead. But I did recently accquire a new e-mail and an avid desire to revisit JA2 (now 1.13). If I can help in the testing or even coding anywhere let me know. I have been following the series since its inception. JA3 has been announced but I have yet to see bupkiss about a release date or content. Strategy first isn't exactly a forthcoming company
I downloaded the XML/SNV version of 1.13. I am impressed with the XML coding to say the least. But you are missing some key features: A. An ability to edit save games (in process I know) B. You have done overkill on weapons and attachments (but that's just my opinion.) My computer is so old it takes like 5 minutes to load the XML editor. I have been playing with the tables and graphics. And for those who remember me, you know I do extensive testing of these. When DL and UC were released I pushed the .exe to the limits to see if it would buckle. The coding on UC was exemplary, and I have no complaints. You need me to code something let me know. I am an XML newbie so it might take awhile, but I am learning rapidly (mostly through screwing with the 1.13 engine and attached files.) Tortoise SVN is a godsend but I think it confuses lay players like hell. Just my 2 cents though. Long live JA2 and all the variants and mods. I have 4 installs of JA2 on my computer at the moment. And despite what was said in various posts earlier that you have to use seperate harddrives is unecessary. You just have to vary the program path and do some registry editing. I am currently running JA2DL, JA2UC, JA21.13, and JA2UB (original release not Strategy first.)
So far I have had no problems with any of them.
Even duplicated registry entries seem to be happy.
W4's weapon editor works on all JA.exe's except 1.13 which I am assuming will be updated in the near future. Awesome work so far guys if I can help shoot me an e-mail at Warhawk_mw@hotmail.com despite what my registered e-mail is. I can't thank people enough for keeping the game alive.

Once the source code came out I stopped creating new versions of the editor. Every new version required that I hunt down the new addresses for the weapon/item data, which was a real pain, but since we had no other options pre-source code it was worth the effort!

XML is a really bulky and inefficient way to store data. For awhile, though, it was the hottest new thing that everybody felt they just had to use, even in applications where it didn't really make sense.
I remember pre-source code somebody contacting me and wanting me to make my editor use XML instead of tab-delimited data, and his arguement was that "XML is better". I kept asking him why, because to me it looked like it would produce massive files that would be harder for people to actually work with. His response was basically, "yeah, but XML is better." *shrugs*
