I install JA2 every so often, bout once or twice a year. I just keep getting the urge to play it every so often.

Something happened today as I was playing. I met a merc that I had never met before.

I looked around on the few JA2 sites that I could remember, but I didn't see anything about him. It kind of suprised me. What really shocked me was that he came with a rocket rifle! Kind of an expensive hire, but not the most expensive. Got a good laugh out of his hiring price though.

I was completely shocked as I've played through and beaten this game like 20 times by now and I've never seen him, and I didn't come across any info on him in the websites either.

Has anyone else come across this guy? And if so, is he worth his cost?

Iggy is well known around here, and he is worth his cost. His only real drawback of which I'm aware is that Carlos and Miguel don't like him.

It's hard to believe you've missed him if you've completed the game 20 times; however, I had completed the game about a dozen times without realizing that there was a hardware store in Balime. Embarrassed

Ja-mazing isn't it. I've played god knows how many times & only met Iggy once!

Barry (who I always use) came out with a line I'd never heard before the other day. I met a new shopkeeper in Grumm for the first time recently. Seriously I've played many many times and it never ceases to surprise me. That's replay value for you.

One of the cool things about the v1.13 mod is being able to hire Iggy early so you don't have to wait till the end of the game .

Talking about amazing things.......The things you said above never happened to me while playing Ja2.

But to my surprise,I found a NPC I thought I would never encounter: Rat.

He isn't very important though,'cause it's Gabby that gives the elixir,but still a "good" talking.

P.S.: Said "good" because you have to threaten him to make him speak.

Iggy shows up in Frank's bar in San Mona (like day 70 or so) after you encounter Mike. I frequently hire him, especially because I usually have Conrad, who likes Iggy. You can reset when Iggy shows up in 1.13 in the options.ini.

I would not have much fun if I didn't find Devin......just love to do that explosive mergings at the mercs "spare time". Not to mention blowing that slime queen and some tanks with remote detonators.... :bomb:

His accent is cool,although it reminds me of Micky,that son-of.........
His voice somewhat gives me confidence.

That's one of the fun things about the Deidranna Lives mod: You can get explosives from Bobby Ray's, so there's no drawback to hiring Devin.

Iggy I did find, even the first time I played, he is almost always in san mona bar, near the hookers.

Btw, can you hire Mike? I heard something like this, altough that would be to good to be true..

high leadership isn't enough.

player is doing good = true

this trigger is required as far as i remeber. This restricts Devin to the later game stages. But it can be changed (e.g. in ja2 RR, Devin is enabled earlier)

Oke, but I rather have him as a shop then as a member. More then 6 mercs in a sector is to chaotic for me..

Mike isn't true I found out, how about vince, I never could get him to join me either..

vince can be recruited. He has a specific trigger "vince can be recruited" true or false.

I couldn't actually accurately say what set this trigger to true in vanilla, but having rescued joey helps,having high loyalty in cambria helps and high leadership helps too

robbing the medical equipment from the hospital might have a strongly adverse effect on it though Wink

Mike can't be recruited in vanilla ja2, he's on an NPC slot, so recruiting mike on slot 150 won't work unless a serious hack/ code change is made (somebody made a hack long ago where each character coudl be recruited. Cows, crows, bloodcats? anything actually. but this wouldn't be the same as it works with placeholder speech and graphics)

and devin can be used as a trader even if he's on your team. Even npc's can activate his trader interface ;-D

And no I didn't rob the hospital. The loyalty wasn't too high though.

Btw I noticed something strange today, if you go to drassen church and bust open the chamber behind it, there will be the fathers shotgun, but you can't take it through inventory screen. So taking it could trigger something? What?

Items like that have an owner who might get upset if the item is taken (they might become uncooperative or even hostile). You'll find a number of items like that in the game. Usually (perhaps always), you can get away with taking them if nobody sees you do it.

Regarding Vince: after you've taken all of Cambria, filled it with fully-trained militia, and killed the Hicks, the town loyalty will probably be high enough for you to recruit him.

With 80% or more of loyalty you can recruit him.I haven't rescued that perva kid.Just killed Hicks and did some battles,raising loyalty the hard way. :rifle:

Hello~

Ive just recently encountered Mike, kicked his ass(in cambria) and so on.
However, I havent encountered Iggy yet, I have a merc camping Franks bar, checking there every few hours. But so far no luck.

Ive also put down the game progress number from 70 to 50(same as mikes) so I could encounter him earlier, but no luck Sad

I found him in one of my recent games. You might have to leave the sector, load another and then wait a day before going back to San Mona to check again.
Just like when trying to get Tony back in his shop ^^
