Hello guys,
I wanna pick your brains a bit about san mona. I just started playing game again after about 7 years off.
When I played JA2 at first, I have always killed kingpin, cuz I thought he is a bad dood and I am supposed to rid Arulco of a mob boss. However, now I am wondering if it is financially advantageous to do so. Because I just found out that you can keep doing the extreme fighting in san mona over and over and keep getting $$$, so wouldn't it be better to just park a guy in san mona to collect the cash as a steady income? I mean when you do kill kingpin you do get a bonus of cash right away (about 50k right away), but you do lose out $$$ over time if you are in for a long campaign.
Also, I forgot is Tony the gun dealer part of Kingpin's crew? If I kill kingpin do I lose the ability to sell stuff to Tony? which is another 15000/day? If thats the case you really have to let kingpin live.
Thanks

You do NOT lose the ability to trade with Tony if you kill Kingpin.
I usually just kill him, but it is more money in keeping him alive. Let

has somebody ever tried friendly killing kingpin? i.e. mustard gas grenade, then start fight and watch kingpin walk into the fresh clouds of mustard gas? similar things could be done with mines i guess. maybe even a C4 and remote detonation would work.

My guess is that the mustard gas "fix" (in early versions you could kill off NPCs with mustard gas without anyone caring) will work even if he walks into the cloud, remote detonation will probably turn everyone hostile (and the bartender will be angry at you, "you low-life!") mines could work though.
It sure is an interesting question, may have to try this.

This is all BS........
Tried the mustard gas,and he turned hostile.JA Gold is not for amateurs...... :blah:
I keep him alive until I'm a millionaire, then for fun I just kill everyone that stands my way(Darren,Kingpin,Daemon,Spyke,Layla,Frank,etc......).

Rednight
I always go for the kill when I get a chance. He is a bad guy and your supposed to be the good guys. Most the time I do it after I have his assassins after me.
I think your better off killing the crew in San Mona. They have some good gear and they are a good tune up fight. I ususally do some fighting to make money, but the mines tend to finance me fine.
I usually don't kill him.Well, not on the "official" savegame..... :naughty:
I love the EFC,so even if I'm millionaire,I do some fighting just for fun... :karate:
Rednight
Even if you wipe out the staff of the brothel and the bar Tony will be more then happy to keep trading with you. Sometimes I have even traded with him right after the battle. Oh and after you kill the madam well your crew uses the brothel for free and that always raises moral.
Waste the bastard
At WF,Tony becomes hostile. And on Gold version the "brothel effects" are disabled.Although in DL,I saw it. Hahahaha.....even a female merc likes the brothel.

rk47strangely when i went on a killing spree on kingpin's guards...it lowers the morale of some 'benevolent mercs' like Ira. I'm not sure why this is the case though, do they count as civilian?
There are some in that sector who are purely civilian; you shouldn't shoot them.
I always start that battle by shooting Damon. Once you've shot him, all the others in that sector who need killing should turn hostile. Just don't shoot the non-hostile ones, and you shouldn't have any morale problems.

For all guys using the 1.04 or above versions (vanilla, of course), here are some other ways to do the job right:
- Kill Kingpin by aiming at something behind him. The bullets will still hit him, it'll just take a while. When he drops, just let him bleed to death. This works for other NPCs too.
- take a guy with low explosives level that you don't need and have him set and defuse explosives near Kingpin, over and over till he messed up and blows himself and Kingpin up. It may be messy but it seems to work. Sometimes your merc will even survive the blast. Works for other NPC

There is a way that you can complete the Kingpin quest earning a lot of money (a maximum of $95.000!!!), and have none of Kingpin

I just tried to kill Kingpin & crew early in the game (day 5), it's pretty hard even with heavily equipped mercs (I bought some Zylon +ceramic, a GL and a AR at "excellent"-level BR, and send Ivan, Scope, my lvl-2 IMP, along with Igor, Dimitri and Steroid, all correctly equipped - Sniper rifle, AK, Winch rifle, Shotgun, Thompson SMG...).
BTW I wonder how the armor system works, my 85%+ mercs still die quite fast... Still didn't manage to win without losing 3 mercs out of the 7 I send so I keep trying.
What's really unnerving is that except Kingpin and Damon, the gang shoot with pretty effective weapons ... and drop nothing at all (I've set "drop all" option) ! That's pretty lame...
Why aren't they considered as enemies that drop stuff ? IIRC they did drop stuff in original JA2.

Yes they do drop things but they will not drop their Commandos too often. I usually just steal all they have which gives me a nice loot of armor, commandos and ammunition.
A trick is to silently take out the people in and around the club first, then proceed to the middle part with the two houses and then Kingpins house.

Killing Kingpin is a tough choice but it depends on how far into the game you are.
Early on its good as he'll give you that cash boost plus a good weapon and fighting his goons is also good battle experience.
The downside is though you lose out on making money via the fights which over time turns out to be a sweet ticket.
Dealing with him and engaging in the fights is handy but it sorta leaves you always having to keep someone back in the bar.
For my own perspective, I like to kill him after a couple of days after meeting him and getting about $30,000 from winning some fights. That allows me to pay up and extend my good low level AIM guys like Igor & Grunty up 2 weeks in advance. Plus its a challenge to kill him earlier as well when your still at a relatively low level and haven't got great gear. That's what makes it fun.

TrashManMoney fighting is limited, since the extreme fighters heal slowly. After you beat the same guy 3-4 times he will drop dead.. no more fighting, no more opponents, no more $$$.
That's actually a good point.
You should "milk" the extreme fighters for cash and extra stats increases carefully.
Killing the "cash cows" that they are isn't really a good idea early in the game but it all depends on what sort of role you see yourself taking in the game. Are you a committed sort of freedom fighter that shuns blood money thatcomes from a criminal who's exploited the people along with Dedriana? Or are you ethics and morals more able to cope with taking the extra cash gained from the fights so as to finance a more comprehensive and successful rebellion ahead of schedule?
That's what makes this game so great! It's being able to make these choices based on what you feel is how you'd want to play it out.
