It seems like everyone that does this kind of game is in Russia or Eastern Europe.

1c, Nival, ALTAR, Chaos Concept, it's weird. I wonder why?

Probably because the local market is asking for, and because the dev cost is lower, so foreign editors may still be interested even if the game is not a real success for western mass market ...

Jazz: Hired Guns will be titled Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge for its western release. There's a thread about it: http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/154360/Main/11743/

In other news there's a team doing a turn-based remake of X-Com! There are some development screens under "Media". It looks ambitious for a freely developed game, here's hoping they can get it off the ground.

I tried the demo and as soon as I saw the splash screen with the "babe" I knew this was going to be an amateurish mess. Indeed, after playing a while that is my opinion. There's the kernel of a good game in there but it needs a lot of work.

This was developed from material that the company used in a cancelled contract for JA 3D. The full version has already been released AFAIK.

Ok JA 3D is being released in the USA/NA by Strategy First.

Who is handling the USA/NA release of Hired Guns?

Why is there no offical english forums or support for the Hired Guns demo?

i just hope that the company that create jazz will finished it, and not freeze the project in the middle like JA3 and JA3d.

I dont understand why there not more games like JA, i think its the best gaming that have.

I agree on that. There is no game that a played that long. Though there is not that much time to play I hope to play JA for many years. Just bought a Vista computer and installed the needed programs. There will be only 1 game installed: JA.

I've come back to find Mistland's done with their version of JA3. honestly, I'm glad SF stopped produciton on that because after playing the demo for a lil bit, I would've been sorely disappointed if that turned into the next game in the Jagged Alliance series. The NPC interaction was the worst, as I suspected. Not a bad game though. I liked the ragdoll physics.

@Lockie

Vista was on my Dell. JA2 works great on my Vista computer. Though i agree on your remark and therefor i am cleaning my old XP box up especialy for JA2. And it is true about Vista: it is not fast. AMD, dual core, 3 GB RAM, ok 3D card and all Areo OFF. The computer feels slower already.

PC World concluded: The best system to run Vista is a Apple MacBook Pro. HAHAHA!

Btw I love the Mac. Working for 18 years on them.

Downloaded & tried this thing out giving it a thumbs down.

From what I see so far it's a dog. Just doesn't have a smooth intuitive playstyle like JA2.

Mediocre graphics coupled with an awkward camera view dont help much especially when trying to work out line of sight & a stealthy approach towards enemies. You basically have very little idea of who is seeing what as you move about.

There's an almost 12 o'clock straight down viewpoint making it virtually impossible to work out where doors are located. However mercs can climb through windows and onto roofs.

Very limited tactical view making it difficult to have your mercs & enemies appear in one screen without constant scrolling. JA2 has a far superior system.

There are no conversation voices, just animated text choices in a box Fallout style.

Combat distances seem quite reasonable .... not shootouts at 10 yards like JA3 screenshots.

Map doesn't snap to enemies or focus of action so you need to manually scroll about to figure out where the baddies are.

The inventory, health, movement points & tactical options miniscreen is quite adequate though.

Tried it and it was alright. I like the graphics, map-size (seems to work well with both intense CC fight aswell as for machineguns and sniper rifles) and overall functions. However it had a few bugs like loosing sound. And the translation was obviously made by an autotranslator and sometimes hard to understand. What also annoyed me was that it

Hi

GFI has confirmed that the game will ship in Poland too (http://www.gfi.su/news.php?id=371&langid=2). Nobody heard something about an english version ? That's confusing... They had trouble with Strategy First a few times ago (about the name and so on). But this cannot be the reason which prevents them to translate the game. Any ideas ?

Very little interest in the game in the US, I guess. For some obscure reason, TB tactical games are all the rage in Germany. JA2 beat all expectations, and Hired Guns is also in the fastest selling game of the week charts, despite only being listed for two days.

They renamed it from "JAZZ: Hired Guns" to "Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge". Hence tripping the wire set up by SFI lawyers that no reference to Jagged Alliance should exist. But whatever they do it doesn't count half as the mistake of making the game unmoddable. These game companies NEVER learn.

I played the demo (JaZZ) It did not swing like the old good Ja2 v.1.03 I played 10 years ago. Still going strong and now I will cleen the map once more with your mods. Wildfire in my opinion more easy then Ja2. Ja2 got flavor man! Smile

Think if somebody made the Ja2 in 3D, with good new graphic but did not kill the real interior, the hart of the game, I would not need another game in this life.

Just a heads up for those interested in buying this game.

Matrix Games have made several patches available that fixes a lot of the bugs, but the patches only work with games bought at their store.

Their forums contains links to the patches and seems to be home to a small modding community. "The Fine Tuned mod" is the most recent, fixes even more bugs, adds a lot of content and improves the AI.
