I tried german version last night.
What I have to say - this game pissed me off a lot. Graphics seems cool but else...
While I was starting I crashed 2 times (!!?). The second time after loading autosave I've lost equipment for one guy (gun, vest, helmet and ammo) Then I had to leave the game and start again because one of my mercs disapeared while deployment, and couldn't be put anywhere
There is no egonomics at all. I mean - when you create your own merc - there is no slider to set leadership to 35, or marksmanship to 85, you have to click 30 times on every stat... There are no hotkeys - I was always clickin "c" "s" or "p" to change stance, "l" to look in the direction and so on...
The specialities like rooftop sniping or nightops are lost at all?? Night ops probably for good because there is no nights But what is for the damn psycho test at all??
This game shold be 3D Jagged Alliance... Graphics look OK but this is the only thing OK in this game. For me this maybe MAYBE should get 50% at all. Maybe this is because of me because I had so high expectations, but this game is some kind of early beta version, if they would just get some points from JA2 (maybe mods) they would be able to make it a lot, LOT better

heya, had to register just to tell you guys about the hired guns: jagged edge.
after getting the german version via torrent, i have found the file structure to be similar to 1.13 mod.
i mean that theres like xml files to actually script and mod the game.
i found that theres a locale folder that has russian and english folders in it, not sure how they work as of yet.
also has a script folder that has like ammo, armor, emails for the ingame laptop i guess and much more in xml.
so basically i'm requesting that the modders might take a look and make the game as it should have been.

i guess you are right and i really appreciate the work that the modders have done on the 1.13 mod.
still loving the game after so many years because of that, so a big thanks to all the modders in here.
i'll keep looking at the hired guns a bit more for now though, even managed to turn the german version to mostly english already.

actually i tried to find JA3's release date and stuff, but then i stumbled on hired guns as Jagged Alliance clone or JA3D.
right now i have no idea when or if the real JA3, sequel to JA2 comes out.
keeping my thumbs up and hoping this summer though.

I don't know...it seems to me that we are perhaps dismissing Hired Guns too quickly. It all may be moot if it never receives an English release, but if it does, it stands a fair chance of being a much better platform, mod wise, than JA3. The developers have told us that militia and training are out in JA3, but they are present in HG. It is a game with many flaws, from what I hear, but it may well be the best place to migrate to eventually. After all, the community here is incredibly talented, and more than capable of taking a game with a very good core and transforming it into what JA3 should be. This all depends, of course, on the real JA3 being a disappointment, which I am certainly hoping will not be the case.

I played the JAZZ demo, but I was less than impressed. People gotta think better when making the NEXT Jagged Alliance. What do you think made the series so loved? The blood and gore? The weapons? The TBS combat? Nope... These are things easy to replicate, you can then slap a half naked chick on the cover and THINK you have made JA3 but you are actually in a totally wrong place.
JA2 was made with an RPG soul. The fact that Sir-tech also produced Wizardry is more than evident in how the approached game design. They let the player play a role, explore, solve quests, things that are more than a nice gfx engine that allows you to shoot a gun.
That's why is so hard to replicate the feeling of JA2. Everyone's starting on the wrong assumption. If they'd take a great RPG game, add a strategic element to it, then modern combat, they would be so much closer...
PS: There won't be any JA3 unless Ian Currie makes one. Only 3d clones.
