Indeed, Interplay went bankrupt and they changed the developer. Still, you can change the current character, pause the game, queue orders etc, I think its more SPM (smart pause mode) than FPS...hard to define untill we see, anyway.

lol yeah after the 11 first patches and hotfixes maybe it turned out playable in the end ;-D
all i know is "the fall" as a symbolic example of bad quality development where the game is released and all kinds of patches and fixes are *required* to get it working in the first place...
did the re-release a version that included the first dozen patches? or does the fanmod you mention do the fixes?

Operation Darkness is worth a look. I made it all the way to mission 24, then read I made some mistakes that made it difficult to progress and have now restarted. The fact that I restarted rather than just quit says a lot.
Postives:
Destroy anything
character leving
skills and powers
Kitting Weapons
Salvage weapons including some unique ones
Great turn based strategy RPG
Magic, werewolves, and dragons mixed with nazis and tanks!
Doesn't feel like a JRPG, definetly has a more western feel to it! No cutsy creatures here!
Negative:
Some obscure game mechanics are not readily visible and will impact your enjoyment
The game can be initially very hard till you get a understanding of the feel for the game's play, then it can become pretty easy except for the last few missions.
Camera Control is wonky at times
Several missions start with you getting pounded from the outset
The later missions have the Nazi/blood clans getting bigger and bigger action bonuses so they can ofter act 2 or 3 times to your once, unless you find out the secrets to play mechanics to equlaize the play field
hidden characters and actions can impact your team. Its all to easy to lose or miss a few important squad mate withoutrealizing your doing it.
My biggest beif with the game? I can't save in misison! I have to restart a mission! that means listening to the entire briefing and all cut scenes without being able to really skip them! Ug.
The combination of not understanding the mechanics of the game and the lack of save game was driving me nuts..and almsot made me quit the game. Once I figured out the 'tricks' to the game mechanics the lack of saves wasn't much a problem...although I can see the last few missions will probably re-annoy me! I love easter eggs as much as the next guy, but this game really penalizes you if you don't exprement and get some of the undocumented rules to the game.
The second play through is almost easy now, when last time I was pulling my hair out on some of these misisons. The fact that there are so few part based strategy/RPGs makes this hard to pass up. I alsmost gave up despite my love of the genre, but once I understood the hidden rules, I'm enjoying the game immensly! As a fan of the genre I woudl rate it a 70%, some definet flaws but worth checking out. I strongly encourage expermenting when you play to find out the hidden rules, some of the online FAQs provide some assistance and are a good guide, but they still miss a critical peince of the required information in my mind. Specifically around encumberance and how it impacts play.

OK, not a bad touch for slow arses like me, even with a "penalty"...
Quote: The best thing to do was use the VATS mode, which lets you pause the action and target individual parts of the enemies' bodies. You can do this only a limited number of times before you run out of power
Might be funny afterall...
Quote:It's worth noting just how adult this game is; even the young boy repeated the "F" word without batting an eyelid. He called the enemies in question the "f***in' ants," something that we've not really ever heard said by a minor in a video game before.
Hell ya, it's funny! ROFL..
Quote: We had three responses to choose from: "Bryan, I'm sorry, but your father is dead," "Your father's dead," or "Sorry kid. Your old man is ant food." We decided to switch from good cop to bad cop and go for the last option, which was met with a response of, "You're an a**hole."
