Porn - raises morale supposedly. Do you just keep it in their inventory?
Walkman - raises morale and lowers hearing?
Tvs - nothing? Just sell it?
Cigars - nothing? Just sell it?
Cuban Cigars - nothing? Just sell it?
Gameboy - just a component for the X-ray detector
Medals - ??
Anyone know for sure what these things do?
Are there any other mystery items I'm leaving out that effect hidden stats but seem to have no purpose?

In my opinion its actually far to easy to hold your mercs on a good- perfect morale status and get the bonus to-hit (at least if you don't let one of your mercs die). I would say someone has to rework that system so that you can hold a merc on 40-50% with succesfull fighting and paying in time, but you will only get him to 100% with little presents like money and cigars, alcohol etc. We've got plently of bars so why not give them a reason. Of course this means we have to lower moral in normal way of playing, for example with injuries, bad equipment, high weight and for example boring, repetitive actions (for example training militia a whole game... they won't say anything if they just wanna train a few. But if for example someone like haywire had to train all day militias... i guess he would be pretty fast angry.
Cigars. raise our morale for a day, but if consumed at nighttime make you a perfect target for any enemy.
Porn. Raises morale a good amount, but you're a little bit distracted the next few hours. Yes there are baddies out there but I better take a quick look if me beloved pornmagazine is not lost.
Gameboy. raises morale over time but uses batteries. While playing merc is hearing pretty nothing. And only pot enemys pretty close (4-6tiles) Needs Int > 40 or no effect
Basically there should be two sorts of moraleitems permanent and limited useables.
The limited give big amounts that will last a short time, good for discussions about paying :)Fill him up, and then let him sign his contract.
The permanent will lose a bit of duurability, but some you can repair. The merc will use them if he don't do anything and raise his morale bonus. Or you can lay them in their primary hand for a bit of pornreading in the battlefield.
Maybe we could add another job like Idle or Guard. So the merc who currently don't fight/train/repair/heal knows if he/shecan either replenish her/his moral or have to guard.

The TV and golf clubs have a realistic purpose: stuff your backpack full of televisions and send your lower-strength mercenaries running around Arulco like wandering vagabond television/golf club sales(wo)men!

Can't we have them giving a small permanent morale bonus ('permanent' as long as the medal is in the merc's inventory)? And a considerable temporary loss of morale if the medal is taken away?
That would need some coding, of course, this cannot be achieved through meddling with XML-files (yet?). The code could be set up to work with an XML-tag for the morale bonus, so several different medals could be set up, with different boni (only the best one should count, though, no cumulative effects). Additional coding and an XML-tag could be done to link the medals to the number of kills a merc has achieved, so that you cannot give the more prestigous medals to losers...
You could produce hardened veterans by giving out the proper medals, and medals could also be coded to affect HAM's suppression a bit.

i remember of numbs talking; "scope always talk of her little medal", and he dismiss.
Medals should only raise moral of military people, like: scope, len, grizzly, ivan, igor, shadow?, sydney?
starwalker talk of HAM, what is it?
and i vote for a possibility to merge porns... ( i prefer 100% items conditions)

Marlboro ManGameboy is not part of the x-ray detector. The "Lameboy" is. And as Headrock mentioned, the rest of the stuff listed has no effect and can be sold, except for the walkman. Which can also be used by a few mercs who are not getting along with each other, but are in the same squad. Don't forget to remove them once battle is started.
Played JA2 1.13 3042 exe SVN@1165 Full (the single click installer) recently, have fully repaired a walkman, took off Grizzly's Extended Ear and placed it there, but he still hates Dr.Q while the two of them are waiting around in the same sector ... :whoknows:

nollanKindredI'd love to see AI implemented where enemy soliders would walk directly to a porno mag that they spot and pick it up. It'd be wonderful for laying mines and/or separating enemies for melee kills. That'd be awesome...reminds me of Metal Gear Solid where the mag was consumed after the curious (horny) enemy picked it up. Perhaps this will make every damn enemy in proximity run for the mag and set them up for a pretty messy ambush?
In Commandos: Beyond Call of Duty you can do that, throw ciggy packs on the ground and one of the sentries will come pick it up. You can also pelt enemies with rocks while hiding behind a wall, sending them running to you ;D
Enemies in JA2 sort of moves fast though, a lot of the times before I can press Shift-X to go Turn Based they already moved in and spotted me.

Needs something like the Peril Sensitive Sunglasses friom Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy for Grizzly so he can get on with Dr. Q.

Its a pity a lot of the cheaper mercs (with promising/good stats) do not work well together.

It was so frustrating and insanely hard I almost chucked my computer out in the back yard from time to time. Really cool game anyways, but the difficulty was beyond what's healthy for you.
Speaking of rocks, I haven't really bothered to try, but do they have any good use in JA2? It would be cool to use them similar to in Far Cry where you could distract the enemy and send them off chasing a distant sound.
