http://www.gog.com is now selling DRM-free Jagged Alliance for $10. Deadly Games is also in the near future.

I'm waffling on the purchase decision myself. I've played a minimal-VO abandonware version from Home of The Underdogs and while it starts out cool; the awkwardness of the interface catches up with me fast. Hunting for the last guy is bad enough in JA2, being stuck in turn-based is kind of glacial. It's also a pain having to hunt down all the gear manually.

10$? Hell, I bought it for less back in the 90s. How could anyone charge so much for a game that's over 10 years old?

A quick search for a torrent will get you JA/JA Deadly Games for free, i don't think it's worth paying for these games. Even if you are a massive fan it takes a bit of imagination and love to play them. The merc chat back and relationships are probably what saves them from being unplayable. They both work fine on xp without Dos box, never tried them on Vista, out of curiosity i'll give it a try.

I've actually got DG , and got an old computer to play it on , cause if I remember correctly , it wouldn't load on Vista , though possibly there's something to change to allow it to work ?
As for DG , graphics were horrible and gameplay seemed ..... primitive .

GOG's claim to fame is that their games are tweaked to work on modern OSs. So far IME that's been the case, though I didn't buy JA yet.

Edit: I should add that I'm running vista 64, possibly the least old-game compatible OS you can own.

6 bucks for a an old game would be ok, if you are a fan. But $10 its a ripoff. I dont understand what's their criteria either. Why Fallout is $5.99 and DG and JA1 $9.99?!!! DG and JA1 are way older than Fallout...

While I agree in principle, in practice it's still pretty cheap, and good luck finding the game elsewhere.

Edit: legally.

Still, it's the kind of game that wouldn't even make it on a free cd that cames with a gaming magazine. Wth, I got full JA2 with LEVEL last year. If they would've sold the magazine with a free JA1 the would've had a riot of their hands...

R-I-P-O-F-F.

For 10 bucks I can dig up newer games in the bargain bins at Carrefour or any other major outlet. And i usually do that... buy old games, just to have them nicely wrapped in a plastic CD case. I got Freelancer, UFO... oldies but goldies that actually run on Windows.

On the other hand check this:

I don't have a handheld console, being able to get a working JA on the DS would probably give me enough of a push to buy one, primitive gameplay notwithstanding.
