I was curious to know if anyone else tried this out and/or uses it a lot in JA2 1.13 -

The new 60mm Mustard Gas Shells - I just tried it out on a new game taking Alma [ Bobby Rays is set to Awesome Selection ] and Using a few shells, was able to pacify the Firing Range and Prison to the south. The spread from the Shells is insane !

Anyone else used these and the Mustard Gas Grenades for the MGL and other launchers ? If so what did you think of the effects and is it a '' fair '' call to use them on Deidrannas troopers ?

Hope to hear your thoughts.

They feed me gas, I feed them gas. That'll teach them to carry gas masks. I mean, f***, I have to waste inventory space on them whereever I go. So screw the enemy, let them suffocate on their own bodily fluids. Very Happy

I didnt use them hardly in previous games thinking it was a bit unethical, even before 1.13 with the Mustard Gas grenades but after testing out the new Mustard Mortar Shells I'm a convert - ability to pacify a sector without wasting a lot of ammo is very VERY handy lol

Just be careful if civilians run around in a sector, I've seen them stay next to the cloud, then the cloud expanded...

If you wait for mustardgas for you to be available through the enemy (do not buy it at BR), they usually carry gasmasks, and so this wonderful shell is wasted. Better like the 'boom'-way. But, if they don't carry any, mustardgas is one of the finest items ever created in Ja2 Wink

Even if they have gasmasks you can use the mustard gas shells. Just wait for some enemies to enter the cloud, then follow-up with a HE-round. The HE-round then damages their gasmasks... Wink

As i just mentioned in another thread, can we get mortar smoke rounds added to the game? I have a coworker who was a observer for his mortar platoon in the US Army (stationed in S. Korea in the 90's). He told me about laying down smoke, illumination, and HE bombs during drills.

Smoke rounds are really important for my battles in open terrain to provide cover from sniper fire.

Smoke rounds would be a nice addition, but why not also add Illumination shells and maybe even Tear gas too, make the chemical warfare tactics a little more diverse plus more ideal for a Civilian sector rather than blanketing the entire area with Mustard Gas

Would be nice! Mustardgas has been added as well, so it shouldn't be a prob to add the others, too!

And if you're racked up with mortars and just don't know what to do with them, start hitting sandbags randomly. If you hear someone scream, follow up with a mustard shell. May be expensive but in the late game and sectors like Meduna airport/sam site you can take out a lot of campers this way if you're working with two mortars.

You don't even need mortars for that, thrown grenades suffice if you know how to do it.

Yeah but I usually do this in real time when I'm 50 tiles away from those sandbags, before I have encountered any enemies.

My best use for chemical warfare is in Meduna Hedge Maze sector. I go in at night with one main merc team, and another artillery team outfitted with mortars (RPCs only). The mortar team lays down mustard gas shells on all approaches, followed by regular HE shells, which causes many of the enemies to die or try to take other routes. This really helps when the queen's pool is set to unlimited, as she will have a TON of reinforcements waiting at the meduna palace that keep streaming into the maze sector, so this kind of thins them out or at least slows them down, and as they emerge from the cloud they get shot to bits by the main merc team. I would much prefer smoke mortar rounds though, because that would allow me to engage them at a closer range, with grenade launchers.

I've never really used mustard grenades and other chemical stuff unless I do it for fun, I think if flashbangs were added they would be really useful.

Flashbangs are in the game, they look very useless from their states, so I never tried them in any combat in the game.

Smoke mortar rounds would be really useful for me, 'cos currently I have to wait for ages for smoke nades to spread their radius, and I can only throw smoke down in my line of sight, relatively close to me. I think it'd be useful to use mortars to make a smoke screen than move in, so during the day it limits visibility, and makes my heroic charges a bit more than just running stupidly into automatic fire.

Flashbangs have a hardcoded property that doesn't show up in their stats. They will blind people within the explosion radius, which is a serious handicap. Every been blinded by bug-spit before? It practically neutralizes a merc/enemy for a considerable amount of time.

Bugspit would work quite well as a substitute coding for flashbangs I think as it really screws up a Merc when they've been hit with it.

Would wearing the electronic ear make things worse as well, ie; noise amplified straight into your ear? :sadyellow:

Probably not as similar devices have noise reduction for sounds louder than a certain threshold.

Flashbangs only work indoors, underground, and at night. Wearing sun goggles negates their effect. I find flashbangs good for indoor combat, such as the Orta or Tixa basement. Use them to blind enemies so they won't get an interrupt on you. However, in most cases, a stun grenades is better, although stun grenades don't always work on the first try.

Most people don't use flashbangs cause you have to buy them from BR. Edit your enemyitemchoices.xml, and let them use flashbangs, and you'll see how fun they are!

Wow, there are flashbangs in the game? I've never seen any, I bet it would be really cool if the Queen had her specially trained spec ops elite soliders that you had to fight, they should be heavily equipped and armored as well as equipped with flashbangs to make things interesting, this would make one awesome firefight don't you guys think?

Currently, flashbangs are only sold through BR.

Crepitus....hate tear gas and I love using it to limit their access in the smaller areas.

Mustard gas I have had great success with underground, but the further you get the more often gas masks are carried. The elite troops almost alway have them...Kingpins guys and the Hicks don't though so slaughter them.

Answer to the original topic question:What about chmical warfare on enemy troops.

I can say that any similar stuff spent on your enemy is a properly destroyed one.Because every grenady you don't throw and sell is a potential weapon for terrorist attacks.

I already managed to create illumination shell, unfortunatly area that can be lit isnt too big. But tear gas and smoke shells are VERY easy to create just look at normal HE shell and smoke granade stats and change few things, easy really.
