Early June for European Release.

Some sites say Early May for USA, others say it's already out.

They also intend to do a port of JA2 for DS at some point soon!

That actually sounds way cool, even though I've been a fairly strickly anti-console person for years.

Don't suppose it would allow much in the way of mods, though.

Oh wow. Do you think they'll dumb it down or keep it as is?

As is the usual for such ports to a console based platform, they will make adjustments that are essential because of the difference in control implementation, i.e. they don't have a QWERTY keyboard and mouse to use to run the program.
As long as they keep the basic focus of the game, that is, moving a character around, and being able to shoot people, it should be fine.

I wouldn't expect DG to make it over to DS, though.

Yup according to the press bits they've only changed what was absolutely essential to change for the different type of handling reasons and also deleted some minor "scenery" type npc's for memory reasons I think. So it's still cornflakes just in one of those tiny boxes that are meant for kids see...

I remember when they announced JA2 for DS years ago. Nothing came of it for some reason.

I'm glad this one came out and I'm going to get it as soon as I can.

I've been looking for an excuse to buy a DS and now it's happened. Nice. It might be the only game I buy for it but it'll make for a more fun commute to the office.

Amazon.com in the US lists the JA1 DS game as in stock. I'm tempted to get a DS just to play it, but I have the boxed version for PC already so it's hard to convince myself.

JA2 will be a lot harder to cram into a DS since the PC version uses 800+ MB of space and the DS carts are only 256 MB. It wouldn't be the same game if they drop much of the voice acting.

Some DS carts have a lot more storage. I think 256mb is just the standard. I'm sure they could fit the vast majority of the game on to the DS.

I've played it a little bit and it is quite a good translation but the original is still the best.

Some things I have noticed:

*A lot of the music has been changed.
*They have changed the names of some of the equipment.
*A lot of the voice seems to have been removed (especially during gameplay).
*Injuries require healing but not first aid (not sure how it works exactly yet).
*The opening cutscenes have been upgraded and look much better.
*There are some tweaks with the difficulty but it is hard to elaborate on specifics.

Overall, my initial impressions are very good and I hope it is sucessful enough to keep the series alive.

Japan actually, but I got it from an online order.

Play-Asia, Amazon and eBay all have it.

I been playing the game and so far I find it quite good. Back when I had JA1 on the PC I had no idea what to do and kept shooting the guards (it was fun! but I normally kept restarting and do that no idea why). Now that I have it on ds now and its many years later since I played JA1 I get to play it for what it really is. I understand there will be lots of different things and so far I can do everything apart from one thing.

How do you reload apart from shooting with the gun? Only way I found out to reload is when im out of ammo i click shot/shoot and my merc reloads and most of the time shoots one bullet (if they have any spare AP).

Well dragging the ammo over to the gun worked on PC, so it should work here as well.

I cant figure out how to reload either, but there doesnt seem to be a reload cost so running dry in the middle of combat isnt a big deal.

Now, the real question: Where do I find Micky? I know he's supposed to be around somewhere, but I havent run into him yet and I'm in desperate need of .45 or 9mm ammo...

Have they released it in UK yet? Can't find any press about it at all. Most irritating.

Mickey? Mickey is not in Ja1 only in Ja:DG. Or is this some new thing in this port?

My mistake, I thought he was in both JA1 and DG.
So my only sources of ammo are the dead, new recruits and warehouses? :-/

Yeah. That's why in Ja you learned where enemies were positioned and then you attacked important sectors a few times, since they dropped different amounts of items/ammo each time.

And you conserved ammo a lot as well. Like the one clip you get with the M14 in Sector 10. It lasted me for days. The next clip from sector 27 was the same.

I always try to get as much ammo from the guy near the east border of sector 38 as i can. 3 clips of 9m and even 12 gauge can be acquired from him if you have the patience of saving and loading in sector 39 and traversing to 37 a few times.

I know he wasn't in original JA lockie and this is not a mod, it's a port. So i can be quite certain that he is not part of it. He always appeared during missions in DG, not on the tactical map so i doubt the put him in somehow.

This might be the one thing that will make me dig out my DS and blow all the dust off of it.
