Would like to find a toolbox in the beginning of the game, any place where I can find one?
(Don't want to hire or edit mercs/IMPs for it)

Use the ExtraItem XML file support (see my web page) to add one to a sector you haven't visited. Or change Tony to carry them.

Other than that there is sometimes one in the mine in Chitzena.

There is a random chance of finding one in Drassen mine. At the very beginning that's the only place i ever found one.

Mine authority shed in the Kingpin map of San Mona... not always there and the lock on the door is tough early on in the game.

Aha, that's where I need one... Handy if you go in the beginning of the game to San Mona to get some cash and weapons... Thanks Smile

It's not always there though. Luck of the random map thing. And it's pretty much always about spent too, when you do happen to get it. Also if your lucky with the random map thing, you can sometimes find one in one of the houses in the same sector that Tony is in.

BTW, I consider this one of the early game flaws in JA2. Not having toolkits around really punishes the player at what is probably the hardest part of the game. It's not like later in the game where you can sit back and take a few days to repair everything without a care. Early on that time is crucial so you have to balance repair now or get going. Well, it would be a balance except there aren't any toolkits.

There are a lot of mercs who do have toolkits in their inventory.

If the player is punished it is done (in Mr. Cordona's words) rightfully so.

That's how i normally get around this, i insert with Wolf on the team, then hire Gasket when i have taken Drassen. I order a Toolkit from B.Rays in the meantime.

I start off with two toolkits and good mechanics so they last a long time. Problem solved, for me anyway.

Thanks all of ya...

As Marlboro says, there's one in Tony's sector. It's in the building right behind it... (Depends on luck, of course).

As Wil says, there's one in the shed of Kingpin's sector as well... about 30% full.

So I travel there and depending on finding a toolbox I buy new or partially used weapons from Tony.

For the curious.. my team consists of Barry (to repair and unlock doors), Bull (to do the main fighting at Kingpin's) & Ira (to carry stuff and deal with Tony, while training).

It's one of many reasons I allmost allways make Estoni my first stop. You get Maddog for free who has a toolkit and you can allmost allways buy a 30%>55% toolkit from Jake.

If you have to have special knowledge in-game (which most of us have) then something is set up poorly. That's one of the reasons I don't like the Drassen counter attack.

Yeps, the Drassen counter attack is something out of proportion.. You don't expect it that soon in the game. On the other hand it is REALLY fantastic, especially as you don't have the best gear yet...

? if the enemyitemchoices.file would have a toolkit ?
could that
a) balance things at the beginning ?
b) flud you with those redboxes after some battles.

edit/added after reading the reply below:
I fear that Gasket or Dimitri will just get confused (again) when there's many toolboxes.

Actually the surprise of the DCA is fantastic. I still remember my first time (hmm so many innuendos!) fighting through it. Due to not having great tactics I ended up cornered in the bar and it took hours to complete. Last time around though I had HAM and it was genuinely great fun Smile

Maybe there should be a toolbox in the rebel hideout, or at least a percentage chance of finding a low-mid level toolbox.

Thanks to the BR Shipping replication bug I just received about forty of them. Since this slows my game, I dare challenge your statement!

There's one in the mine usually and rarely one in the hanger with Waldo.

It's part of the charm if you ask me, no matter how many times you play JA, you'll never have exactly the same path/choice to make.

Sometimes you find a Tool Kit in Drassen Mine, sometimes you don't. Either way, all these random items/enemies make each run through unique.

It would be a lesser, more linear game if you knew where everything was.

Is the placement of toolboxes and other items in a sector determined at the start of the game or at the first time we enter a sector?

And the rumour about items in a sector can be regeneated after a (very long) time is correct or not?
