Hi all,
I remember having great fun playing JA2 on windows back in my high school days, and I'd really like to get it running on my macbook now.
Ideally I'd like to get the latest version (0.11?) with 800x600 mod up and running. I do know generally how to bring a terminal up and use a command line, but I don't have strong grasp of system variables ($something?) and how they work on OS X.
Can anyone give me directions on what files I need and how to install them? Thank you!
Regards,
Pete

You can see if Cocoa/Quartz are enabled when you run SDL's "configure" script: look for the line
"Checking for Cocoa framework ... yes/no".
If the answer is "no", Cocoa is not installed and Quartz won't be enabled.
Install it (it should be on one of Apple's CDs according to what I saw with Google), run SDL's "configure" script again and compile it.
I ran "configure" and Cocoa framework IS installed.
Here's the output I get (sorry for the length):

Well, apparently I am a n00b beyond all imaginable extents of n00bage, because I didn't get one word of what is written in this thread
A while ago, for Stracciatella 0.8 if I remember correctly, a kind soul by the name of DiscoBoy quickly built and posted a .dmg file containing a precompiled build. It can be found here.
Basically, all a user had to do was download that build, right-click, hit "show package contents" and drag his original datafiles from the JA2 Winders install. Hop! JA2 running natively in OSX in ten seconds.
Quartercast, since you took the time to successfully get 0.11 working (I salute you!), would you be so kind as to share the resulting .app with the general public, AKA me?
I believe the JA2 Stracciatella project would gain a lot more following among Mac users if the pre-compiled .app was shared in the project web site, as the Windows binaries are. Maybe you could contact the guys making it to ease this process, hopefully helping a lot of other Mac users apart from myself.
Once again I congratulate you and thank you for your time. My 0.8 build (DiscoBoy's) is good, but crashes now and then, and I was hoping 0.11 or 0.12 would fix at least some of those problems.
Thanks again!

Hi Doolan, I've uploaded the 0.11 Mac OS X executable here.
The 0.11 executable I use is actually the 800x600 modded version posted here.
BTW, have you already got your data and config files set up?
Edit:
You have to run this from your terminal, i.e.
cd to your JA2 base directory, then
./ja2_old -fullscreen
(I've named the uploaded executable "ja2_old" simply because I've got several version in my directory. The one I use is actually "ja2-8x6" from the link above. Additionally, if you don't run Stracciatella in fullscreen mode on your Mac, it will slow down to a crawl.)

Quartercast, you are a hero of the common man. Bards will forever sing epics about your awesomeness.
Now, if the files in question were added to the Stracciatella project site, I'm sure InsideMacGames would love putting up a story about it to drive the Mac fans in.
I can only hope that by "data" and "config files" you are referring to the stuff I already have from my JA2 Windows install (not 1.13, since that doesn't work with this, right?). I shall test it tomorrow and report.
Logisteric, I thank you for your kind words and agree with you to great extent. Still, a sentient being with Google should at least try, as I did. I then realized I knew way too little on the subject and that bumming an app from our awesome Quartercast here would be more efficient
Thanks again guys, you are several levels of amazing overlapped.

question:
this only works under intel macs right?
powerbook titanium has a power pc processor I think any chance of ever playing ja on it?
