Hey guys, first post here.

I have the gold pack with the 1.13 mod and i think it's a really awesome game but it's too hard for me. I always choose the easiest settings but everytime I take over Drassen I'm stuck. New enemies keep showing upp and sometimes it's like 20 enemies against my 3 mercs. It's really frustrating. Can you guys recommend a starting team and what I should do the first few days.

Easiest settings are not easy !! Don't max out on lots of mercs ,about , maybe 5 poorer ones and your IMP should do the trick . Keep some cash for paying them for a coupla weeks , wander around the a/b/c maps and take on smaller patrols to build up AP's and experience/skills before Drassen or Chitzena . You can also sell items left behind on the battlefield by going to tactical and select an item , R/alt and R/mouse button together , voila , instant cash . Also , play with 'drop all' enabled (it's on your options screen) .

If Drassen is proving too difficult, you'll want to turn off the Drassen Counter-attack.

Go to \Data-1.13\ in your JA2 folder, then edit JA2_Options.INI in notepad.
Find the line "STRATEGIC_EVENT_SEND_TROOPS_TO_DRASSEN" and change "TRUE" to "FALSE". This requires you to start a new game, but will make the early part of the game much easier to survive.

Consider editing INI settings (the INI editor can be located in your JA2 folder). I wouldn't be in a hurry to increase starting funds, but you should definitely cancel the Drassen counterattack if you don't want to use an unconventional starting strategy (and beginners do not).

As for the first few days:

Make your IMP (you want high health/agility/dexterity for sure as well as good marksmanship and strength).

Hire a balanced but fairly cheap team - Igor is a good combatant, Barry is a good mechanic/explosives expert, and Fox is a good medic/teacher. These characters should be hired for 1-2 weeks. Possibly also hire Scully for one day with his equipment, because it's good (especially his rifle) and you get to keep it after he leaves.

Clear out Omerta - this shouldn't be too hard. Make sure that you recruit Ira - her stats start weak, but she can become a medic/teacher/marksman given time.

After that, head for Drassen. I believe there's a crowbar in the farm sector just west of the airport, which might be useful for cracking some of the lockers. It's your call whether you make it a night mission or not, but on the easiest difficulty, it probably won't matter much. Be sure to clear out crates and stuff as you go.

Once Drassen is clear, patch up your wounds, start training militia, and (if you didn't find one anywhere) order at least one tool kit from Bobby Ray's. You don't need to be in a hurry to go anywhere - it's better to build up a good amount of militia first, and even without the counterattack enabled, patrols will come to attack Drassen anyway.

Good luck!
