Uh, I'm not sure what those symbols mean, you know, the ones between the first number and the name.

Do you see that in Tbird's posting, or only when you quote it? It could be code to force several spaces one after another (normally several spaces in one place are contracted to a single space by the forum's code).

Hmm, I do only see blank spaces instead.

Maybe your system/browser interprets

differently from other systems.
Which browser do you use?

BTW, what is

anyway?

A forced space should be

It could be down to fonts, I have two machines both running firefox I see the symbols on the one machine that has a load of East Asian fonts installed.

I use firefox also but it could be regional settings that cause this. Looks kind of weird but this is the first time I see something like this in these forums and its no biggie.

O.K., guys,
unicode

is an 'ideographic space', a space used for languages that are written in signs/syllables (like Chinese or Japanese).
The hexadecimal code is 3000, and what Uriens sees is his browser saying "here should be the sign coded by hexadecimal 3000, but I cannot display it".

Well, I've downloaded it and played it a bit... there are some new weapons, numerous new ammo boxes and crates and some new LBE items. The MOLLE items have been revised and so far I think there's some improvement. It's not revolutionary, but not bad...

Sorry, but no... I just stumbled across the link (and must admit I can't read chinese) and just downloaded and installed the mod.

Those who like the 909 will like this one (but the Power Ranger Pack is still in there). Still, the sniper bag and the RPG back do not work, but there are chokes for the shotgun (full, improved and rifled), a ReadyMag-Adapter for M16/M4, a vest having only MOLLE slots, the ASM-DT underwater rifle (with conversion adapter to fire 5.45x39 ammo).
Wide MOLLE slots now can hold two narrow pouches of the same type regardless of their content and the AIM Mercs start with different equipment (especially Multicam headgear and jackets).

Okay, just went through it myself, and slapped myself in the forehead once I realized how badly put together this is.

Main thing being this, and it will blow your mind:
You cannot buy magazines from BR anymore.

But that's not the worst part, the worse part being that all the new ammo crates show up at 30%, but all the old stuff still shows up at 80%.

This means that you -cannot- buy any form of 9x19mm or 5.56x45mm from BR until late in the game, but right off the bat with "Great" BR settings you can buy .223 or other late game calibers. If you listen -very- carefully, you can hear game balance crying in the corner. :wb:

This means two things: One, I can go through the items.xml and change almost every single ammo line myself, or I revert to 909 again. I like the new additions, but why in Hell would you change everything else?

/rant

well, i think that explains this:

seems like the DBB folks have fecked it up royally. besides, DBB mod is a nice modders resource for item pics and a testing field for some nice XML hacks with interesting features, but there are other, superior mods out there, namely Smeagol

I'm giving up on this mod as well. I didn't like ROF for lots of guns in 909 version but this ammo change is beyond anything I can describe. The time invested to change and fix all the things they FUBARED in last versions can as well be spent on making another mod, walking in the park, working out or anything else more constructive. I think we have been fixing this mod's problems for so long it really makes me think that people who use it spend more time fixing it then developers making it. It's really silly to see same bugs show up version after version, YEAR after YEAR, but new changes have killed ANY and I mean ANY logic or sense in this mod.

I'm throwing a towel for this one. I'll probably pick some older version of this mod like 908 or some older or maybe use some variation of this mod that people made so far, and stick to it. No more new versions of DBB for me.

i gave up
1:its a horrid mess..909c was still playable and had a semblence of blanace..910 is a flippin joke
2:many of the weapons i drew that were of MY suggestion not even thought of by them but proffered by me..are being replaced with often very inferior drawings..its like a slap in the face that they prefer bad local art to my superior(on many not all..i wont bitch about my crap stuff being replaced..but my good stuff..ugh) foreign stuff
3:the enw merc xml loadout is mine..but they tinkered with it a touch and some of the mercs have insanely dumb loadouts now ruining the whole balanced concept i presented..

so..i GIVE UP!

ok..i said i was done with this..but..this is my ja2 home and you are my people..so here is a quickie tbird fix some stuff removed all the ammo balanced at br's..if ya like anti-material rifles like .50bmg and .338 lapua..dont use this..if you like anime backpacks and ww2 weapons..dont use this..this is what i play with..its basically vietnam and up only with no uber-rifles...BUT..the ammo sells in a proper balanced level at br's now depending what lvl of br's you start with..enjoy and use at your own risk..back up your items.xml to a safe spot and copy this to your data-1.13/tabledata folder allowing to overwrite..

http://www.esnips.com/nsdoc/dba6172c-db11-49fa-a7c4-96dd5186c19c/?action=forceDL

i will not make this an ongoing thing..so this is it ..you've read what i said i altered so use at own risk ..no whining allowed

hmm..guess i should warn..most of the new weapons..arent fully fleshed out as most cant fit very many attachments which is just pure lazy..the new nato ones that are meant as us military replacements and socom..can fit few attachments making them somewhat useless in the big picture when they are chock fulla rails able in reality to basically fit any and all nato attachments..i'd say..this is at best an early alpha of an unfinished add-on..so..if you have a nice hk-417 that fits yours sweet dbal and 10x..and you come across an even sweeter MK14MOD1 with all its sweet bristling rails hither and yon...forget it..your precious attachments wont fit on it...heck..cant even mount a 2x scope or 7x scope on it..just acogs..lol ..lazy lazy lazy Sad

PS:if i seemed ticked off at this..yes i am..was hoping for forward progress based on all the years of feedback we've been giving dboy..yet all thats happening is lazy fallback of just slapping in any graphic he can find and slapping any values that
"seem" appropriate...BAHHH

i am fixing dbb 910 for myself ..... but need some questions answered .....

can i delete the things that are "seemingly" unused?

like "ownership" and the "syringe"'s and things with "hide" (Creature Hide, Female Hide, Male Hide)

and on the ammo page, what is on image, off image, and grayed color ....... and where do i go to get what colors the "font color" numbers represent?

and ..... pictures ..... anywhere i can get the pictures to edit them? i would like to make more ammo types. i need to edit the tape on the current magazines.

okay ...... i have done a lot so far, but i have much more to go ..... if i can get someone who i can get information from about the XML editor ....... then when i get done with this, i will release it.

but note ..... everything i will do is personal preference ..... i have deleted a lot of stupid/overpowered/ridiculous weapons ...... i have deleted weapons i think are too off-the-wall like nun-chucks ...... i have deleted weapons i don't like ...... the .38 special for instance, the ONLY gun that used that ammo ...... and it is ugly ...... it is gone, along with a few other ugly/overpowered ammo types and weapons, i have also moved some items around (made binoculars face items, made helmet covers and guille suit armors, moved canteen's and boosters to medkits section, moved gerber tool and compound 18 to kits section, maybe more i cannot remember. main focus is to clean up the misc/misc section at BR ...... when i am done it should only show attachments)

my to-do list:

standardize the naming of all the ammo, for better BR'S list.
completely reform the ammuniton, from the ground up.
add burst fire to a number of weapons.
change damage/range/ap costs for many weapons.
change tons of values on attachments,
completely redo the attachment incompatabilities
completely redo what attachments go to what
delete a lot of attachments
update/fix the descriptions of everything (both BR's and the description box)
move some SMG's to the MP's section.
edit pistols/MP's and the holsters so that if they look like they can fit into a holster they can
delete more stuff .... like grenade launchers and grenades
make a lot more mergable items and remove some mergable items (repair porno mags by combining them)
and more i cannot think of now because i have not slept in around 32 hours ......

usually when i get hyped up about a game, i get bored real fast ...... then a month or so later i want to play it again ........ and when i find a game i can mod/edit (morrowind, oblivion, JA2, etc. etc.) i edit it for realism .... and balance ...... and when i get done, i play the game for 2-3 days, then get bored and completely remove it.

but this time ...... i am planning to get bored, so when i am done editing .... i will save my results, and next time i wanna play, just install and BAM ...... good to go

if anyone would be interested in my personal 910 fix/overhaul/reform, let me know ..... there are a few aspects of the editor i need information before i can do some of the things i plan to however.

side-note: if i get my questions answered ...... it may take me a week or so to finish all the edits and tests.

but there are chokes for the shotgun (full, improved and rifled)

Those are from /basic/ 1.13, but maybe in DBB they were given proper pictures?

@Tbird: Would you do some pics for 1.13's chokes?

The 'ownership' is what makes some items /owned/ by some NPCs. You may seriously damage JA2's workings if you remove that (normally a NPC reacts to someone taking his/her items). Same goes for 'current balance', for example, that item is connected to your mercs' money.
The 'hides' are the Crepitus' own armor.

If I were you, I would not delete any item with an itemnumber below 328.

Just unpacked and installed 910 (before reading what you guys had to say about it). Man, I don't know. Is it even worth trying to play it? I mean, DBB's always had problems but this just seems extreme. Any idea when or if a corrected version will be ready?

All problems aside, the new pics of M16A1 and M16A1 w/ grenade launcher are beautiful!

Still, I kinda like it... can't have enough guns and that's maybe why I like it... play with "drop all" enabled and mostly buy LBEs and armor from BR, so not being able to buy magazines didn't bother me much.
Okay, I'll tweak a few things myself, but not a lot...

okay now ...... i have decided to release in many versions as i complete them ..... the first version will be the armor.

but i have 2 questions.

1). WHAT do i upload? the "table data" folder, other folders? (what files are modified with the xml editor?

2). for attachments ..... if i want to make the plates attachable to armors, do i add the armors to "attachment data, Items" on the plates .... or the armor?

soon as i get an answer to those i should be able to finish and have the armor uploaded the next day.

EDIT: i think i figured out the attachment data thing ..... what it ataches TO goes in attachment data, and what attaches TO IT goes into attachment ... right? if i am wrong, let me know.

question #1 still have no idea

As the XML-Editor gives the same time/date to all files it just opened, it is hard to see which files were actually altered. But this can be seen with Rapid-SVN, and perhaps with Tortoise as well, when looking at one's own working copy (the changed files are marked).

Otherwise the whole content of the tabledata-folder would be the thing to upload, without the subdirectories except the NPCInventory-directory.

It mostly depends on what you changed.

Puzzled by this talk of DBB and XML Editor.

Downloaded the files under 8.Cosplay/DBB Mod Full.exe from Re: Ja2/UB/JA21.13 Mods Download/Install Guide. After I installed the first file in the sequence, Cosplay, and before I had downloaded any patches it would crash my XML Editor. After I install all the patches, I still get a crash.

What am I doing wrong?

I get the impression that the DBB mods as they are originally posted are somewhat in need of additional work. Could this be the problem, that I'm working with the un-improved version? If so, where would I get the corrected files?

okay now .......

here is the 910 that i installed (got link from a different thread on this forum
http://www.filefront.com/dbb+tbird+910rar/;13866193;/fileinfo.html

and ...... here is the first part of my series
http://rapidshare.com/files/289547055/Invictus_DBB_910_V0.5.rar

all i changed in that is armor, i removed a lot of armor, changed a lot of descriptions, changed a lot of values (armor, coverage, camo, etc.) and made all armor available through bobby rays exept plate pairs

i would like some peoples to test it for me ........ note that i changed NO coolness factors, prices, or merc starting gear (that will be in V1.0)

for those who will test, what i am looking for is this:
1.make sure the protection, coverage, and degrading is the same for helmet, vest, and pants of a set
2.the camo clothes are compatable with the 4 main armors. and incompatable with each other.
3.make sure that all the descriptions fit into the boxes (bobby rays, and desc. boxes)
4.let me know of anything that seems off or odd. it is probably a screw-up on my end

i will begin outfitting merc's and changing prices/coolness ....
before i release V1.0 i want to make sure that i fix anything i messed up in 0.5 ...... any testers that will help me gets a hug and a thanks ....... and a great big e-cookie with e-chocolate chips and e-m&m's ....... and basically i would appreciate it Smile

to go along with the fix i posted higher up that balances the sale of ammo at br's..i've also fixed the ammo types ..the errors in it prevented some weapons from A:showing up at all..or B: having faulty ammo loaded that crashes the game when you reload with proper ammo without properly ejecting the faulty ammo first..this is for 910..i'm still pissed off at the haphazard lazy crap that 910 is..but because my fingerprint is still within in art wise..i feel obligated to provide fixes...there will be more coming including a fix for the mercstartingequipment.xml that is a mess and actually has some loadouts that cause ctd's

http://www.esnips.com/nsdoc/be0920e4-48ca-45da-933b-a25845bf57f5/?action=forceDL

copy this to the data-1.13/tabledata folder allowing it to overwrite
