Hey Jagged Alliance family

I have a stupid question. In another post I answered a question and three brain cells rubbed against each other. Searched the terms in the title and didn't find what I was looking for so I'll ask.

What does the enemy notice at night? flash supressor - good ; AR silencer - good ; tracer rounds - bad ; flashlight attached to the barrel - bad

Just wanted to test my understanding before I sell every flashlight in my inventory.

thanks all

Enemies (much like your own soldiers) see muzzle flashes. Flash suppressors and all silencers eliminate that muzzle flash.

However the enemy may still be able to hear the general direction from where you discharged your weapon system. Of all the silencer type attachments, the pistol suppressor has the most noise reduction, however the enemy will still be able to hear that from about ten or less tiles away.

Some weapons have build in suppression systems, which can be even better than the pistol suppressor, the two weapons with the least amount of noise are the FAMAE SAF Silenciada and the HK MP5SD5 (both have an effective attack volume of 5, knives have an attack volume of 2).

I am pretty sure that flashlights (as well as lasers) don't give away your position. These attachments give you a vision bonus (much like sun goggles do) but don't actually create an in game light effect.

The way I understand tracers is that if the ammunition has the tracer effect property, it gives away your position much like a muzzle flash does. However with some mods (such as possibly HAM), tracer ammunition may work differently and not have the tracer effect property set.

Thanks Dieter

So a flashlight, like a laser sight is all positive modifiers. In the real world even a laser diffracts enough to see if it is pointed near you. A flashlight is just plain visible. But this is a game and if the program uses it against me, turnabout is fair.

Muzzle flashes giving away your position but not flashlights is something to think about, but for now it's rifle LAM/flashlights all round!

thanks again

Hi Folkewulf, I posted a reply about (my opinion) of weapon attachments here in case you are interested in more ideas how I trick out my guns.

In 1.13 the rifle LAM/flashlight is probably my favorite attachment (following my reasoning of the other post), you can also find some additional ideas on my wiki (link is in my signature).

Smeagol's Alpha Item Mod for WildFire has (by far) more attachment options, for example the AN/PEQ-2A laser is a very good alternative to the the rifle LAM/flashlight, and also fits on most sniper rifles which normally would not allow the rifle LAM/flashlight as an attachment.

hey Dieter

I've been using your attachments chart. Great stuff there. And your reply in the other thread was good. Attachments are a balance between speed, accuracy and stealth depending on the weapon and what you are going to use it for.
