Salutations, folks. Been playing the game a little bit, tried the vanilla and then upgraded to 1.13- liking it much, much more. However, there are a couple of things I've noticed, and it is really started to irk me.
For one thing, I can't seem to figure out why my created character in particular seems to use up so much more AP for moving and other actions than anyone else. Running generally takes 8 AP per block, as opposed to 4 for everyone else.
Also, I had heard that MERC is supposed to be available from the start, but I have don't have them yet.
Anyways, yeah, that's that. Thanks in advance, folks!

My mercenary has the following stats:
AGI 65 LVL1 (Which, by the way, what does starting at a higher level do, besides lower the amount of points you get?
DEX 60 MRK 70
STR 85 EXP 45
LDR 65 MEC 35
WIS 55 MED 55
I gave him high strength specifically so that he could carry all the stuff he logically should be able to, without being so slow. If it is the backpack, shouldn't it only cause a penalty if it's heavy enough? As I was looking around on the forums I saw mention of it, but it doesn't make sense that your average mercenary can't handle an average Infantryman's load. I can do as you mentioned of course, but that will be a problem later on, you know?

Well, it's normalized now that I don't have the backpack on, and yes I do have the 'big body' model. I plan on getting him more Agility points, so that shouldn't be a problem in the future.
On the note of backpacks however, do all backpacks add movement costs?

Experience level affects many things--a higher level character will be slightly better at all skills, more resistant to suppression fire, and (most importantly IMO) more likely to get an interrupt on an enemy. I don't see any benefit to making an IMP with a level higher than 1 since you'll gain levels on your own quickly enough.
I'd recommend maxing WIS and AGI and taking LDR down to 35. Higher wisdom means you'll improve your other skills faster. Higher agility will give you more APs and help you stay quiet in stealth mode. Training militia and teaching skills to other mercs causes leadership to go up fast anyway. Ira in my current game has a LDR in the 60s and I'm only halfway through taking my second city.
