Well, you should download my version then. To see the difference.
The difference being that maps have been cleaned up and polished, weapon graphics have been replaced with better ones...and overall I experienced no problem playing the mod to the end.
Sorry, didn't pay much attention to the weapon stats and mag loading, the idea was that this should be the thing to use for anyone that wishes to port the mod in acceptable quality to 1.13(weaponmod should be redone).

This is a patch. Use the sog69.exe to play the game.

Eep!

I need help some help on behalf of myself and some others who have recently purchased JA2 via GOG.com.

I linked to this thread since it's pretty challenging to find working links to SOG '69 and its patches elsewhere. While I am aware that lockie has a set of working download links listed above, I see that there are references to other downloads as well, and those DON'T work. I'm referring to the download link supplied by el_ozaziel.

Unfortunately, the references to the "other" downloads aren't very clear as to what they do. Could someone be so kind as to not only supply working links to these other downloads, but also describe what it is exactly that they do?

Thanks in advance!

Yours,
Kyle

Loggy is correct , SOG is an Unfinished Business mod , but , there is a 1.13 UB mod by Jazz , which joins both ( UB and JA 1.13) together , along with most other UB mods , unfortunately , I cannot get the 1.13 SOG version to work .
Shame as it is a very interesting mod , not to say bloody hard !!

SOG 69 works as the original mod , doesn't seem to work at all in 1024 res or 1.13 as advertised on Legion website , follow d/load instructions for the original mod ( and must have original JA2 UB ) and it works fine !

I don't know if it is a bit late to post this Razz but I just read Kyle's post now. I just wanted to say I have all the JA games form gog.com and the mods don't work very well on the gog.com games. In fact, I think the mods don't work at all. You have to download the original games (or have the original games, of course) to be able to play the mods.

Hello,

I'm a big fan of JA2, and I tried installing this mod today. I followed the multi-step install procedure given above by lockie, but it feels wrong. When I start the game, I have the same loading screen, I have the same e-mails, the same map...

The sectors have been changed, though, along with the mercs's starting equipment. But I wonder if it's normal for me to start the game by crash-landing on an icy landscape, instead of being able to start at an ally base...

Does anybody see what went wrong ?

So... I have to start by hiring a team, then going on the Unfinished Business map ? No Iron Triangle for me, I see the very same map that I had playing UB. Also, no mention of ally bases, or whatever.

Plus, I suppose I should have a chance to get some real equipment, fighting about ten VC with pistols and shotguns wasn't a good thing (killed a few, but had casualties...). I would need a few weapons with correct range.

Oh, another question : is it possible to wait for an enemy to empty his ammo, or do they have unlimited ammo ? (I guess this question applies to the mod AND to vanilla)

You should see a new map on strategic screen , bases aren't named when you press 'towns' button , but if you mouse click onto the tiny planes on strategic map , these should be named bases or landing zones .

If in doubt , toss it out ! .... and reinstall .... Smile

I just installed it back. Now, I see six airstrips, but still on that old map, with Varrez on the middle. The airstrips I see are B5, D1, G11, J16, N9, and O16.

My install is a JA2 Gold, then I put the SOG 69, change the campaign, put patch 1, change the campaign again (though it's already showing SOG 69), put patch 2 beta 1, then change the campaign again (still was on SOG 69).

Then I start a new game, it tells me it's for campaign SOG 69, and I see that damn UB map. I probably lack the map file... Also, when starting, am I supposed to crash land in the very same sector as in UB (H7) ?

Ok. I guess the mod works as intended, then. But I still have to say it's kinda disturbing to be unable to move freely to other sectors, and to have the old captions present instead of the correct labels.

Thanks

GOG.com version of JA2:UB is 1.01 as I recall, so it shouldn't have any trouble with the original SOG '69 version, assuming that you don't install the game to Program Files.
If there are any more trouble, I could give it a try in a few days.

I have the gog version, using the exe in the "sog 69 patch included" version does reinstall the drm. I found a workaround for this. However some inventory items are bugged- 40mm grenades look like a jar filled w red goo and cannot be fired with granade launcher, also reg. grenades look like tear gas canisters w skull and crossbones and cannot be thrown. :whoknows:

Gog version is on my win 7 desktop and seems buggy w inventory as mentioned above. CD version is on my win xp laptop and works fine, also using a no cd exe to skip having to use discs.

Hi Haz, I've gotten sog 69 to work with both the GOG and Strategy 1st (discs) versions, but only on Windows XP. The Sog 69 patches do NOT work on my Windows 7, can't recall but I think its either the 1st or 2nd patch that screws up the inventory. What windows are you running? You may be able to get just the base sog running without patches if you're on Win 7.

A notice about this. The problem is the ja2wedit.exe that is built as a 16-bit application, thus it won't work on any 64-bit windows. You can run it on XP mode (Win7 Pro or Ultimate) and have it do the modifications, or someone could try and compile the ja2wedit.c as a 32-bit application.
For those of you that have inventory errors with the original SOG '69, grab ja2ub.exe from here

Installed both patches under xp compatibility mode without a problem (previously could not install properly). The inventory was still screwed up, but using your exe link cleared up all the inventory problems! Now sog 69 is good to run on win7 64 bit. Thanks so much, was only able to run it on Win XP until now. Nicely done.

Hello JMich,

is the JA2UB.exe you made for Unfinished Business and/or SOG'69?

I ask this, because apparently it works for SmokinGun now. So I would like to add your fixed/64-bit compatible(?) JA2UB.exe with a suitable description/name to the JA2 archive (to one of the 'Patches' folders eventually?) to help future players with the same problem. Thank you!

Best regards; Schein

@Scheinworld
The ja2ub.exe is what you would get when running the ja2wedit with SOG '69 patch 1, on a 32-bit windows installation. Thus it should fix any weapons/ammo troubles that patch 1 should have fixed, since patch 2 doesn't modify those.
I still haven't managed to compile ja2wedit.c for a 32-bit windows, and not sure if/when I'll find the time.

But yes, it's specifically for SOG '69

I would suggest keeping the executable named ja2ub.exe, since the current name makes it sound as if it will patch ja2wedit or something. Add it in a "SOG '69 Patch 3", with a readme of "If you are using a 64-bit version of windows, replace your ja2ub.exe with the one found in patch 3". Not really sure if it will work with steam's version, I based mine on GOG's one.
