One of my great hobbies besides playing JA is watching movies. I thought it would be nice to start a thread where we post tips about movies that have some relevance to JA. This is not intended to be merely a list of titles, but rather a short description, a IMDB link and perhaps a few words about similarities to JA.

First off is The Wild Geese (1978). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078492/ . The movie is about a handful of British senior mercenaries who are to bust into a military base in central African country Zembala to retrieve the captured president. They are accompanied by other hired mercs, consisting a force of 40. Armed with UZI:s, FAL:s and a crossbow loaded with cyanide arrows (for stealthy sentry removal!), they drop from a C-130 Hercules into the African countryside.

JA relevance: Biggins and Sidney seems to be based on some of the characters in the movie.

Also in the United States a series ran called Tour of Duty about an American squad in Vietnam.

The Objective http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0962711/ is a very cool mix between Predator and Blair Witch Project, set in the Afhgan Desert during November 2001.

hhhmmm do "Dirty Dozen" and "Guns of Navarone" get honorable mentions? there not mercs technically.

Black Hawk Down. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265086/ Not so much for the mercenary aspect, obviously, but the "small, well-armed, well-trained squad holding off a force MANY times their size" aspect has JA2 written all over it. Those guys, God bless them, inflicted somewhere between 50-to-1 and 150-to-1 casualty ratios on the Somali militia depending on whose estimates you go with. It's generally regarded as a bad idea to screw with the US Army Rangers. Watch and see why.

One I am very surprised no one has mentioned is "Enemy at the Gates". Russian Sniper and one or two mates work really hard against the German sharpshooter to beat back the Germans. Very well acted and great atmosphere. Pity about the accents and Americanisms in it though. Great for the sniper vs sniper scenes (Vanilla Sniper wars anyone...) and also as the squad trains and has a group of Snipers working together

The Expendables (coming out this summer) looks basically like Jagged Alliance: The movie. (If you could hire Ivan, Shadow, Scully, Magic, Gus, and Reaper right off the bat)

@WW: Falklands Film = Tumbledown. True story with central character played by Colin Firth. Probably made for TV and a looong time ago now. Not that bad if I remember it right.
