Is there any kind of morale increase or other benefit to hiring Mercs who prefer to pair up? Such as Raider and his wife, Razor and Haywire, etc. Or is it just some added dialog?

Training together bonus. Also convincing each other to stay on the mission if they wouldn't otherwise want to.

Do they have to train each other? Or just be in the same squad, to receive the bonus, even if trained by someone else.

Training each other.

The morale bonus is given regardless of activity though, I believe. That's through the Opinion factor (buddies have it automatically set to +25).

Does the IMP mercenaries get this sort of morale bonus if on a team with like-minded people? The email you get from IMP seems to suggest that Friendly/Optimist traited mercenaries get better along with others, but when trying to "talk" to said mercenary I've never seen anything but "these guys suck" lines regardless of who's hired and/or around them.

I believe that they rub off on him.

The "You guys suck" line is more of a story line piece. As the game moves along, and your progress liberating Arulco grows, the mercenaries will say more positive things about one another.

Do mercenaries with high morale rub off on mercenaries with lower morale? If they don't, they should.

When we use the lips/talk cursor on individual mercenaries at the beginning of the game, the mercenaries do not like each other. Later, they tend to say more positive things.

...but don't they change closer to the liberation of Arulco? If my memory serves me correctly, they do become more positive?

So it changes over time? Huh, interesting, I'll have to have a look at that. Though I still seem to get the "everyone here sucks" line even now in my current game after 3 towns and 2 SAM sites.

I am pretty confident they do not change during the game. The only positive comments the mercs make is after killing Deidranna (save for Ivan how keeps on calling you an idiot).
