Is there any kind of morale increase or other benefit to hiring Mercs who prefer to pair up? Such as Raider and his wife, Razor and Haywire, etc. Or is it just some added dialog?

I believe that they rub off on him.
The "You guys suck" line is more of a story line piece. As the game moves along, and your progress liberating Arulco grows, the mercenaries will say more positive things about one another.

Do mercenaries with high morale rub off on mercenaries with lower morale? If they don't, they should.
When we use the lips/talk cursor on individual mercenaries at the beginning of the game, the mercenaries do not like each other. Later, they tend to say more positive things.

...but don't they change closer to the liberation of Arulco? If my memory serves me correctly, they do become more positive?
