I'm playing UC 1.13 and have autosaves enabled. The game is saved every 12(?) game hours, but how do I load these saves? Alt-A/B only loads combat saves.

Combat Saves? What are Combat Saves?
As far as I recall, the Alt-A shortcut should work only on the load screen. So, Ctrl-L to open the load screen, and then Alt-A.
In case this doesn't work, you can manually copy the save.97 (I think 97, probably mistaken though) and rename it to save.05 (or any other number). This will allow you to load it like any other save.

you have to rename the autosaves to a valid filename. then you can load it via the loadscreen. you can configure the autosave feature in the ja2_options.ini.

with alt+a and alt+b you can load the auto savegames after each players turn if enabled in the option screen.
