Walkman, sliver plate, porn, cigars? etc

Do they increase moral or something?

You can sell them at estoni, I think that's it. I may be wrong though.

As far as I knowq they don't do anything - but coding in a morale boosting function might be a good idea Very Happy

I think the walkman does have an effect on morale. One game, when I had Ira and Malice in the same squad, I gave Ira a walkman (she had to "wear" it), and it seemed to stop her from complaining about Malice. I think it also prevented her morale from dropping to "poor".

I'm not aware of any use for the other items mentioned though.

In combat the walkman would have the opposite effect of extended-ears.

Yeah, Walkman does raise morale.

Other items can be sold at the various locations for different prices. Maybe this is overly tedious, but i'll pick up items at one location, transport them to another location, and sell them there for a small profit.

I always found that the mines generate way way way too much cash... so I avoid talking to the miners and run a little repair/transportation business based in Cambria to fund my war-effort instead. Tony's my main man... and Jake's a good supplier... Razz

As "DNA from the Lowlands" states, the walkman have the opposite effect of extended-ears in use of combat. Bit hard to hear the enemy while listening to barbara streisand.

I can't answer this definitively, but I think that all items have at least one purpose in the game besides being worth cash. Some ideas I've had for items didn't work (I figured if anyone would get a morale or energy boost from chewing gum, it would be Ira, but no dice); I heard someone say a few years back that you could put someone's head on a silver platter and give it to Kingpin and he would reward you; the only person I could think to do this to was Angel, and I'm just not that evil. But Dest, if you find that you're getting too much cash (esp. in 1.13 with the 'drop all' function), try playing Iron Man style, where you start the whole game over if your I.M.P. merc dies (or any key merc if you want to ratchet up the level of difficulty). You'll need every cent you can get your greedy little hands on in this mode, for the best weapons and equipment as early as you can get them. :skull:

I finally re-registered not to let these go unanswered... To the best of my knowledge:

Walkman reduces your merc's hearing and is supposed to maintain good morale when worn.

Porn supposedly increases morale (possibly not for all mercs) when carried.

Silver plate can be placed instead of the chalice in the museum in Balime, to prevent the pressure plate from triggering and activating the alarm.

Cigars can be thrown and dumb soldiers near them who see them on the ground will go to pick up the cigars, allowing you to gleefully sneak up and stab them in the back.

Someone asked about other stuff too, I think the rubber band can be used to throw rocks but I haven't been able to test it, and the marbles can be used as a trip trap...

Golf clubs...?

First time I played JA2 I got distracted by something else not too long after breezing through Estoni. This time I went to the junk guy to see what he had to sell, and he had golf clubs??

Is there a hidden use for these?

Also a side question, I can't remember if it was Tony or Bobby Rays but one of these guys had a clip of some ammo that I don't even know what it's for. I can't remember the caliber but the image looked like a 4.7 G11 clip, except pale blue in color?

You can give this stuff to Skipper (the old man collecting trash in Estoni) and in return he will give you a keycard to enter into Orta basement Wink without having the need to bribe Walter and Ernest (Deidranna's scientists) :professor: .

Soda can and string can make a noisemaker alarm to attach to a door. Never tried it, I just place mines in front of doors.

Marbles: Put it on the floor and once the enemy steps on it the sucker will fall flat on the floor Wink

Rubber Band: Use it as a rock thrower: Throw a rock (or other stuff) on a door and if the enemy is stupid enough he will open the door and... LET'S ROCK BABY!!! Very Happy

EDIT: The marbles are perfect for Kingpin Extreme Fight Competition: Put them on the arena and when Darren's fistfigther steps on it... Razz Smile

You'd have to mod the game to make that happen. It's an easy enough item (especially if you use the 1.13 system) and there are some mods out there that already feature this.

LameBoy+Copper wire=display (Balime i think)
Xray tube (estoni)+Fumblepack(balime i think)+Chewing gum (various places)=Xray device.
Xray device+Display=Xray detector. Batteries from (Franz?) in Balime too.
Electronics expert required for assembling (trevor or Lynx or Gumpy Very Happy )

Is there somewhere in the game we need this Xray detector? Or is it just something we can make for fun?

And is it possible to find items in the game (1.12) so that I can make Gun Barrel Extenders and Rod & Spring??? Have found some Tape and Glue, but that's about it. Have only played for 5 days, at the moment I am in San Mona.

Never thought about the marbles, but sounds fun to try em out!

To make a rod and spring you need a rod and a spring, but you can only attach the spring to the rod and not the other way around. Try each combination both ways (try putting the rod in you're hand and placing the spring on top of it, if this doesn't work try the spring in hand with the rod as an attachment).
The extender needs glue, duct tape and a steel tube.

Both of these items attach to many - but not all - guns.

The x-ray detector is supposed to show enemies behind walls but I've never tried this one.

Static and Steroid can also make the X-Ray Detector, since both have the eletronics skill...

Barry can also make the X-Ray Detector, but like Lynx (IIRC) You'll have to develop his mechanical skill

And the X-Ray detector reveals how many enemies are left making your life a (little) bit easier Wink

And another way to win the EFC besides the marbles Wink is to soften Darren's fistfighter shooting some squares behind the opponent with a shotgun. Just make sure that he doesn't go prone, or no fight for ya! If you do this trick correctly winning 15K is piece of cake, Woody! Very Happy

The X-ray detector costs almost no time (2APs) and very little battery power to use and it shows all the entities in your immediate area (NOT the entire sector from what I've seen) on the minimap. They're color-coded like normal; the hostiles are red, civilians white.

This is an excellent strategic advantage for knowing what to expect while making otherwise dangerous entries into hot zones. If you leave it in your hand, you can see the enemies moving during their turn too.

My entry task force of Magic and Trevor swept the warehouse place in the back entrance of Cambria hospital with the scanner, and managed to take a squad of soldiers from the back reliably and repeatably although heavily outnumbered. Pays to know exactly where all of them are.

I love the xray for finding the last guy in a hostile sector...beats having mercs walk back and forth over every square inch of ground...but I still prefer the old way of dealing with enemies hiding in buildings, explosives. Never go through a door when you can go through a wall!

Ah, but you use the X-ray to select exactly the spot to plant your explosives where they will cause the most - ahem - collateral damage.

That's why X-ray and explosives are both needed in Entry Team (along with wirecutters, lockpicks, and silent and automatic weapons for "quiet" and "loud" entries respectively, of course.)

I consider the x-ray device an exploit, really. i can do better than that. The only way i use it is to find the last guy standing. If 50+ of them could not waste my team, one single last mob means just waste of time. So i use the detector and eliminate him and go to the next sector where there are plenty of bad guys. If i could, i would leave that last guy alive, for what i am concerned. i wish he would throw in the towel and hightail or something(on rare occasions they actually flee). the last one standing is sometimes really a pain in the behind. I got no fun by looking for him.

IMO the only drawback of the X-Ray detector is the fact of those 'NeverReady' batteries are non-rechargeable... And I suppose that there's no need to say the batteries run out of juice... Wink
