I'd like to see Bug 478 on Jaggzilla included in any "final" update. It hurts the purpose if everyone uses the current name for a year before the name gets changed.

Yo RoWa21, I installed "JA2 v1.13 Release (EN) [4452].exe", then "ja2v1.13-update-4552-EN.exe", and then extracted "ja2v1.13-hotfix-4462EN.exe" over it, but the strategic map graphics are buggy, did I do something wrong?

For example portions of the sector inventory remain around the strategic map after closing, the buttons at the bottom of the strategic map have some darker borders around them, feels like they don't quite fit. Is there an SCI?

Yo RoWa21, I installed "JA2 v1.13 Release (EN) [4452].exe", then "ja2v1.13-update-4552-EN.exe", and then extracted "ja2v1.13-hotfix-4462EN.exe" over it, but the strategic map graphics are buggy, did I do something wrong?



I may be wrong but I don't think you need the v4462 hotfix if you've got the v4552 patch.

@Dieter: Do not apply the hotfix AFTER the 4552 update.

Take a look at the revision numbers. They have to be in ascending order!!

1.) 4452 Release
2.) 4462 Hotfix
3.) 4552 Update. This update also includes the 4662 hotfix

There is an... issue... with the installation of the v1.13 base mod.

Once you have installed 1.13 (and the 4452 update), you are no longer allowed to install the v1.13 base mod to another folder.

I was trying to just make a clean installation in parallel to the existing one but the base mod installer refused.
I had to delete it's registry entries to get it to cooperate.

Searching the registry for "v1.13" (not in values) will find them.

Ya ran into that issue as well regarding the system not letting install more than one copy of JA2/1.13.

Even more annoying is after updating my .net Frameworks the XML editor still crashes on start-up. To alleviate that Tais and others on the Bearpit chat pointed out Smeagol's AIMNAS mod. Yum, yum. The fact that AIM members have 5 equipment lists to choose from AND both them AIM cronies and the IMP's now show up loaded for bear and not like the whole mission to Arulco was a half-assed lark where everyone thinks they are a badass with just a pistol. Who needs XML?

Next question, where do I read up about STAMP (the new traits/skills implimented in 1.13. My Search-Fu is weak, and a search of STAMP (if that is what it is called, thought I saw that mentioned somewhere)?

You may install as many copies of 1.13 IF You use the SCI of Tais

instead of >> sorry RoWa << the pride-of-Austria - installer
which only allows You one copy where JA (1.0 2.12/2.13) may be run and carried around on a USB-stick without an (registry)probs as often on You system as Youn may imagine.

Those "only once" installers are only for people incapable of cleaning their systems.
BUT oc they are forced upon everybody.

Hey Gorro, can you load all of JA2 (the original game) on a flash drive? I tried and it failed. I want it simply because I have five computers and not all of them have a cdrom besides the point that flashdrives are more flexible than cdroms. Plus my twin is visiting he would like the whole new 1.13 AIMNAS/STOMP ball of wax on his system in Zona but he likes to play dumb can't be bothered to take the extra effort to download and install. Plus he would have to find his original CD and he lives with our SERIOUS pack rat of the mother. Yes, she is a hoarder, he can walk in the garage entrance, and folllow the narrow path past the john into his room. That is all. And I wish was joking about my mother but I am not. Good thing I live 2000 miles away because she would kill me after I went on a cleaning binge and threw everything away.

Gorro, Flashdrive are USB-sticks. Like I said, I tried to copy the directory of my JA2 cdrom onto the USB-stick and it failed, repeatedly. Is there a trick to get it to copy on to the USB-stick?

Understand that I know enough about computers to be dangerous to said computer, but I thought you couldn't copy an installed game and then posted somewhere else because of tags and crap that the game looks for in the original computer setting? Or has this been changed? Or am I just not understanding you. You aren't transferring the installed game to other computers but simply playing the game off of the USB-stick?

Ya found out about the copy paste by accident. Installed everything and I goofed something along the way and when I tried to blow out the game and reinstall the disk wouldn't give me the install option. So I copy pasted and then reinstalled and somehow got it to work so now I can play. Woot.

NCTH:

I have some questions regarding the NCTH and sniper rifles. I had read some threads about the NCTH and how some like it and some don't. I haven't decided yet, but I would like some clarification if I may regarding how snipers are supposed to work with NCTH.

What I have seen so far is I have two people I have running around with snipers, an IMP with the Sniper trait using an IWM(?) and a MRK of 80 and Buns with the Marksman trait and her AIMNAS Mrk (80-something I think) using a Steyr Scout.

I have fought 5 battles including a major one and so far both of my snipers have hit a total of ONCE each. Yes, they have only tagged someone once and mind you, I have yet to attempt a head shot. Is this typical? The IMP must have fired close to 30 rounds and Buns is working on 40 rounds. And only 1 hit apiece.

I fired once standing up missed wildly and ever since they have been laying prone to fire and more than half the time firing from rooftop. I also only fire when I can use full aim, no snap shooting with a sniper rifle.

As for the ranges of the targets, I have read that serious penalties have been implimented (which I concur with) so I think the closest target has been around 14-15 tiles from the sniper and none of them have tried to fire outside of the range of the rifles. What is the actual minimum ranges for the scopes? You get a penalty if you fire at a tango 10 tiles or less with a 10x Scope? 20 tiles?

Heck, Buns has been massively more effective with her tricked out .40 S&W with the +1 range for a total of 12 tiles than she has with the sniper rifle. She has tagged a boogy three times out around 20 tiles with the pistol!

So what am I missing or is it simply that the penalties slapped on to a sniper rifle doesn't get negated until the shooter is higher level and his/her marksman is closer to 99? The reason I asked this was because prior to installing AIMNAS I was running with Scope (MRK 99) and she was hitting about 50% of the time.

This issue, I don't think, is related just to sniper rifles because another IMP (MRK low 70s) has a SOCOM 16 and he has fired close to 40 rounds and only has 3 hits. All of his targets have been at least 20 tiles out because if they are 20 and under he switches to a MPK. Speaking of which, how can a fire round burst miss a tango from 4 tiles?

If you have installed 1.13 by using the official installer, you also have to Uninstall it correctly from the Software. Do not simple delete the folder, use the Uninstall procedure, otherwise Registry entries will not get deleted and the game thinks it is installed already.

sorry rowa, but this procedure is bullshit, jagged alliance II has NO registry entries, so why use a system that introduces them and make things more complicated (those entries are from the installer NOT from jagged alliance)

i can't even expnad that installer to an empty folder (because it doesn't find 'whateveritis' there) - i see exactly no reason why an official release have to behave that microsofty at all.

IMO, the installer shouldn't care if another copy is installed.

If it has to comment on the existing version, it should suggest upgrading/repairing the installed version or just delete its uninstall entry and create one for the new installation.

The current no can do message should have a tiled trollface background.

ok, next full release version will only be a 7-zip package. anyway its much easier for me to do that. i hope anyone is happy now.

Copying to a USB-stick worked, but it had one hickup. The AIMNAS mod while being shown in the directory didn't work, instead what I got was the latest version of 1.13. The 7-zip file for AIMNAS had a blank icon whereas the Hotfix patch which I downloaded but didn't need showed the 7-zip icon. So I installed 7-zip on the USB-stick and unpacked the AIMNAS mod again, replacing all of the old files and the AIMNAS mod then worked fine.

I do have another question observation, the game pauses, just for a couple to three seconds, no hourglass symbol or anything the mouse cursor just doesn't move/respond, then after the pause the game plays on as normal. Only problem is that this pausing happens a lot, like every 15 to 30 minutes of me playing the game.

Oh and I have decided there is definitely a bad thing to having so many 'effing guns/items/attachments. Relatively new in the game, after Omerta went to Drassen, yes even though this is a Wildfire mod and I am supposed to go to Chitzina (sp?) first, I went to Drassen strictly for the airport and Bobby Rays to get some more scopes/reflex sights/ammo and ended up spending about 3 days in Drassen Airport healing and repairing (used that time to find the annoying Skyrider as well).

But part of the reason I was in Drassen for so long real time was because there was so much crap on the ground (drop all, think it is stupid to artificially hamper/make more difficult a game by limiting what badguys drop). It used to be unless it was a newer/cooler weapon, you could ignore the weapons unless they had that little green asterisk indicating an attachment, now almost every none pistol has an attachment, a stock attachment. Doh!

Silly question, whatever happened to increasing the number of total mercs you were allowed to hire past 18? Did that fizzle or has it been implemented and I just haven't noticed because I have yet to hire more than 12 mercs? I haven't read anything about it since I have been back playing JA2 with the latest update.

Thanks for the yet another great update, it's almost like getting new JA every build Wink

Question: Is there a way to make this game work with WildFire or at least WildFire maps. I tried to install the latest 1.13 update and then the WF6.06 mod on top of this (as instructed in the 6.06 readme), but my game fails to start anymore due to some fatal error. I really like the new character traits, but playing through the original JA2 maps yet again is a bit of a bore Smile

I may be mistaken, but wasn't there talk of simpler bug fixing patch to 4552? EDIT: realized the quote confirms the was talk of a patch. Moving on, any comments concerning progress of this bug fix patch that you would like to make public RoWa21?

One of the things I am trying to use to reduce the disparity between scoped and scope-less rifles has run into a recently found code bug ( details for which are here ). Just wondering if I should wait for the public releases of v1.13 to fix the issue, or proceed with a relatively easy, but hamfisted workaround.

I hope I find some time at the end of the month to release the last bugfix patch for the official release.

if the bugfix patch is fine, maybe then I release a new all in one 7zip package release version, which will become the new stable release.
