Wow, just wow.

I have been playing JA2 since the Demo first came out all those moons ago. I have known about the Secret Caches from almost the get go. I thought I knew what they were about. Apparently Wildfire had other ideas.

See, even though I knew about the secret caches, I really didn't do much with them. They weren't high on my list of places to visit. See in my mind the weapons caches where just an area that when you walked into that sector some crates would appear that had some mostly junk in them. Yes, I knew about the cache near Alma having the P90 but it still wasn't enough for me to go after it.

On a lark, while running the Wildfire maps, I decided to go after the Drassen weapon cache. WTF-Chuck! Where did this facility come from? And holy crap that is a lot of loot. Who needs Drop All if you visit the weapon caches!

My question, yes I have a question, in the Vanilla (and therefore 1.13) wasn't the weapons caches as I remembered them, crates that would appear on the ground as you walked near them or have I totally missed out on this factor of JA2 for the last umpteen years?

No, I am not much of an explorer, only time I go off the road is to look for Skyrider and Madlab or to avoid a patrol.

Thanks,

Eastwoodaen

Okay so you are saying that the maps in AIMNAS is more than just Wildfire? Were those facilities in standard Wildfire, which I have but is too buggy to complete? Or were the facilities added for AIMNAS? I have checked out two facilities so far, E11 and H10, I think.

And am I correct in remembering that the previous weapon caches in vanilla/1.13 was just crates lying around; I want to say one of the locations was on the beach and you had to swim out to a chain of very small islands that had small trees on them to see the crates?!?

aimNAS is [color:#3333FF]based[/color] on wf - 'nough said

as to the vanilla weapons caches:

- buildings
- guards
- 3/5 contained mostly grap
- the g11 and or p90 was near balime; near alma where the spectre stocks
- grap was near draasen, grumm and cambria (if you count dragunovs as grap, that is)
- only one of them showed up in vanilla unless you cheated (m9-patch)

Okay, I could start a new thread (again) and maybe I should since this question is totally different. But...

"Why can't Johnny train little Billy on shooting his BB gun?"

Do you have to have the Teaching minor skill to be able to train Militia and your fellow mercs a skill or attribute you excel in?

I am guessing this is a change with STOMP but who knows.

I have two people who can train other mercs, my Squadleader/Teacher and my Hunter/Scout, Squaddie has a Leadership of 75 and and Hunter has a LDR of 50. But when I have Buns who has a MRK of 80 try to train Ira in MRK, even though Ira's MRK is only 65, Buns name flashes red, like she can't train. I have been using the Hunter to train Ira and Buns in Leadership, both were below 25 thinking that their LDR had to be higher before they could train other people.

Training Militia has been a bit easier, I have like 3 or 4 mercs that I can use to train them. However, I have run into an issue. In Chitzena, I started training Mercs in the top left sector, the one with Yanni. After the counter attack, I tried to train Militia in both lower sectors but could not. When I went back to the Yanni sector I was able to go back to training. Is this a bug or has it been changed so you can only train in one specific sector (the town center as it were)?

And do you have to take all sectors before you can train? It used to be based on the loyalty of the town, if it was like at 40-something percent you could train. In Drassen I have the top 3 sectors, holding off on taking the Mine sector until I am ready for the DCA. The loyalty is over 70% and I still can't train Militia.

Thanks,

Eastwoodaen

You know, I thought some of the maps looked differently. I was waiting until I got to Cambria to make up my mind.

Yeah, with AIMNAS in the start up ini it asked if I wanted all weapon caches and to have something different I said yes to them all and when I was repairing in Drassen and couldn't train with free mercs I sent them to the first weapon cache thinking it would of been crates lying around in the woods.

This means in all of the years I have played Vanilla/1.13 JA2, I never once found/saw one of the weapons caches. Boggles the mind.

Thanks Log.

to train militia you need 20 lea (it also says ... lacks sufficiend lea to train militia) this is not stomp but ham - 40 for mobile militia

stomp changed 'mercs training mercs' - read the stomp threat could answer you question i guess

nope, that's not correct you trained them in the north-east sector as this is the only on with an aca-building (required to train militia, that works also with major military installations and the rebel hideout - the later only in aimNAS which you are obviousl referring to as in standard there are only two chitzena-sectors)

edith: that means your whole thread is basicly in the wrong subforum

judith: he did say aimNAS, but he didn't find the proper forum

Edith and Judith: Honestly since the original question was what was exactly in the original weapon cache's I could have put this in the Vanilla 1.12 subforum. I opted to put it in the general 1.13 subforum because it dealt with the old (1.12), the now (1.13) and the new (AIMNAS) and figured the 1.13 would be more 'centrally located'.

Log: So what does it take to have one merc train another? Vanilla/1.13 it used to be you had to have only 11 more points in the subject matter, be it an attribute or skill. That is what I am still not understanding. Because right now, I can't train any of my mercs except in LDR. Even my Squad Leader/Teacher can't train any other stat because LDR at 75 is his highest stat (outside of WIS).

Logisteric, sorry for shortening your nick.

You mean you don't use your higher/more adept mercs to train your lower/less adept ones? What did you do if you have most of your guys repairing while others were healing and/or training militia and you had two guys standing around doing nothing? I would have the one with a high stat train the other one in that stat. Case in point if Ira was available she has a kickass DEX and there are quite a few mercs with a poor DEX so I would have her train them in DEX.

Of course I play differently than most it seems. After a big battle, I won't move out until everyone has been healed 100% (don't normally use Regen except in the middle of a battle) and every big piece of equipment (guns/armor) is at 100%. It is not unusual for me to spend a week healing and repairing after the DCA.

Thanks,

Eastwoodaen

i ran a logistix company - that does not happen to me Smile

and if there amble time they normally train themselves as everyone lacks in something - after day 250 some of them simply do nothing as they can't be trained any longer (i set the training maximum to 85 as it used to be)

it is easier to have a blocking force out there (i hate it when them redshirts infiltrade liberated territory) - as this force does no repairs but actual wear and tear -> they train themselves from 82 to 85 in whatever is left - on the other hand my instandsetzungkompanie does nothing but repairs (so they are quite good at it)

i don't have a problem with logi but i can't stand log (i'm not a piece of cut down timber)

I thought all sectors that were just "Random Crates Lying Around" got randomized each time you create a new game?

PakoPako,

With the latest version you have a startup ini that allows you to set whether the Weapon Caches will be random or if all will show.

HA! I didn't see the option to select all Weapon Caches in the startup until this go around. But like I said previously, weapon caches were something that I ignorantly ignored.

don't know whether it is at startup or in the ini atm (since the last installed version is the betatest)

It's atm in the startup, but it used to be in the ini. Smile

PakoPako,

*facepalm*

You know, I just couldn't equate that choice (despite it explicitly stating "SECRET. WEAPONS. CACHE.") to "random crates appearing" until just now.
