The XML editor may seem intimidating but it really isn't complicated if you're just going in to look at an item stat. I have no background in coding or modding at all but after a few minutes of poking around I had learned how to find an item quickly and examine its stats. It will however take about 5 minutes to load after the initial double click, this is normal.

On a different subject, what is the purpose of the mod version of an attachment? That is, the version that will stick permanently to the next item it's attached to. Is it just to save time so that when you do CTRL-SHIFT-F, some weapons will keep their attachments, or is there more to it?

Happy New Year, all!

Nope, that's all their purpose. They used to be required for module merges, but those are gone since the early days of NAS.

Yeah, that was exactly the reason I added them many moons ago. But since Bob added his cool instant attach from sector inv feature, those are basically no longer needed. The items.xml gets more and more crowded and I tend to throw out stuff that isn't really necessary.

I managed to juryrig a vfs file for v24 and got a problem like Tais did - Trevor using kit 1 arrives without his weapon. Instead, the laser sight is in his main hand.

Probably related to tons of guns or sci-fi mode or coolness on those guns not set or some tag missing in the xml. I'll check that...

K, think I found the bug. The magazine size for the MP5N variants was incorrectly set to 31. Setting it back to 30 should do the trick.

yup setting mag size from 31 to 30 did the trick, it's a small lot of MP5N versions that need to be changed though

Already did that obviously... will be in V25. Until then, either change yourself or avoid the gear kits with the MP5N variants.

Currently using TAIS installer that includes HAM5 and the newest one too. I like to ask if AIMNAS is in HAM5. So far,I noticed that the guns are okay, they're pretty much from Smeagol's AIMNAS (Although I'm not sure yet because I just saw it had bigger attachment slots and the three panels of the description)so how else will I know it has AIMNAS?

Also, the maps are pretty old JA2, is it because it's not from Smeagol's maps?

No. NAS and UDB are exe features, their presence doesn't indicate an AIMNAS installation.
If you have vanilla maps, chances are you're not using AIMNAS.

Alright, is there a way to play both AIMNAS and HAM5 together? I kept hearing people do that here or am I mistaken? Or is that out of the question?

Edit:

So I installed a clean JA2, copy over Tais' HAM5 SCI and then the newest HAM5, followed by pasting over AIM and AIMNSG folder from V24 over it. Do I have to enable a certain executable or something?

Hi Smeagol,

I love the new stuff and maps.

I am using HAM5.5.1 and added AIM25 to it with my vfs as follows:

PROFILES = SlfLibs, Vanilla, v113, AIM, HAM, UserProf

It has the big maps and I complete the first drop off sector and give the letter to lady and she says follow me but doesn't move so I can never get Dimitri to talk to me.

Is that a bug? or am I doing something wrong?

Also some comments in German is that your mod in German?

Thanks for any answers as I would like to continue playing this combo

Pat

To end the confusion risen over the last days and the multiple internal development versions, smeag asked me to pack a cleared up v25 TESTVERSION.

>>>Download v25<<<

Installation:
1) Follow the instructions given in the HAM-Thread to get a working installation thereof.
2) Download v25 and unpack it to that folder

NOTE:
This is a test version of the new HAM features (transformations, primarily) as well as the Big Maps. It still does NOT work with NCTH and ONLY the sectors marked with a red X on the strategic map are usable.

If you don't feel like testing, the current full release is still v21, get it here and drop it over a JA2 installation with Tais' latest unstable SCI.

Furthermore, any version you find elsewhere should be treated as a development version and you shouldn't get it unless you're a patient tinkerer or know what you're doing with regards to JA2 mods.

Hey guys i have a problem here which makes ze game unplayable Sad
I've installed AIMNASv21 from DepressivesBrot post over a clean JA2 Gold with 4778 unstable 1.13 SCI and everything is fine and all but when it comes to combat the game randomly "stops" during the enemy's turn. Like on the screenshot:
http://i.imgur.com/zx5yg.jpg

The clock never stops to spinning i can move my mouse, the only hotkeys that work are quick load and alt+x.
Sometimes it allows me to play through a whole sector sometimes just hangs up after a 1st turn.
Any remedy for this?

Thanks!

EDIT:

Solution came from IRC

Quote:
[09] open data-aim\ja2_options.ini, search for IIS abd set the first setting there to false

Thank you!

Testing V25, with latest HAM and using fix IIS= false trick.

Looking real good, the transformations are nice.

Checking every container on map shows nothing there. Even default map items are missing as I find nothing but what the enemy drops.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

There are no 'default map items', leaving aside a small handful of hardcoded stuff. Smeag just didn't place any items yet.

Thanks for the replies.

Playing through very smoothly. The transformations like the stocks and LBE look and feel great. Very intuitive.

I like the large maps giving a better tactical feeling especially with the new explosions and longer range weapons.

More options available including retreat and setting up ambushes.

I am sure it is a lot of effort to produce, test, and put items in the large maps. Is the project dying because of the effort or does it mess up other parts of the code like the fatima quest?

Thanks again Smeagol and any others involved in this and I will let you know of any issues.

Hello Smeagol,

This is my first post on Bear's Pit and I'm so excited to say thanks here to you for your great work. It's really fantastic! I was totally shocked when I tried this MOD, as my last experience on this game was from Gold 1.12. ^_^

but after that I found myself trapped in thousands of items. It's sometimes difficult for me to decide whether a item is useful, even with the help of your merge list. So I'm wondering if it's possible to give a "list of rubbish", to make it clear to sell those items without other functions, such as porn magazine or portable TV. Are these items just for fun, or do they have any special use in the game that I didn't realize?

And I have another question about those stocks, I understand that they are designed to reduce recoil, but is it possible to know how much the effect is? I'm curious about it because these stocks cost more APs, especially on MGs.

Thank you !

Just some feedback but not knowing whether 113, HAM, or ANIMAS related.

I have problems stealing from knocked out enemies where the error states "not enough Action Points" to perform action however the merc has way more than enough. Idk but it may be related to where they fall on the maps. Happens more than once in a while.

ANIMAS related the first section of the Airport is extremely tough running out of life and ammo with 6 mercs but 64 enemies at start then reinforcements from sectors, I swear over 150 enemies.

I really do like the start with some rifles, grenades, and attachments and the enemy also has some. Makes for a better start and more realistic. I couldn't imagine being a mercenary to take down a dictator with a pistol.

Thanks Pat

Disable NCTH, that's a bug that's caused by NCTH being activated and some files missing for the description box. That should fix it iirc.

INIEditorJA2Options.xml problems with AIMNAS v21 on 4870

I installed the mod in the following steps:
1. 1.12 gold;
2. extract 4870 release directly into the folder replacing old files;
3. unzip AIMNAS v21 full.7z directly into the folder covering old files.

Then when I started ja2.exe, there are tips showing:

The value [Laptop Settings][FAST_WWW_SITES_LOADING] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Laptop Settings][DISABLE_LAPTOP_TRANSITION] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Strategic Interface Settings][DISABLE_STRATEGIC_TRANSITION] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.
The value [Tactical Interface Settings][ITEMS_SPOTTED_NO_TALK] = "" in file [Ja2_Options.ini] is neither TRUE nor FALSE. The value FALSE will be used.

It seems that the INIEditorJA2Options.xml in 4870 is newer to Ja2_Options.ini in AIMNASv21, these 4 variables(sorry I don't know what exactly they are called) can't be found in the ini file.

And there are also new variables in the ini file which do not exit in the xml file, here they are:

Tactical Gameplay Settings ALLOW_WALKING_WITH_WEAPON_RAISED TRUE TRUE
Tactical Gameplay Settings IMPROVED_INTERRUPT_SYSTEM TRUE TRUE
Tactical Gameplay Settings BASIC_PERCENTAGE_APS_REGISTERED 60 60
Tactical Gameplay Settings PERCENTAGE_APS_REGISTERED_PER_EXP_LEVEL 4 4
Tactical Gameplay Settings BASIC_REACTION_TIME_LENGTH 25 25
Tactical Gameplay Settings ALLOW_COLLECTIVE_INTERRUPTS TRUE TRUE
Tactical Gameplay Settings ALLOW_INSTANT_INTERRUPTS_ON_SPOTTING FALSE FALSE
Tactical Suppression Fire Settings AI_SUPRESS_MIN_MAG_SIZE 30 30
Laptop Settings BRIEFING_ROOM TRUE TRUE
Laptop Settings ENCYCLOPEDIA FALSE FALSE

so is there a way to fix it? It seems that the game works fine even with this problems.
or should I try an older 1.13 to fit v21?

Nah,it's ok. The game will just use default values if it doesn't find a setting in the ini.

Also, please refrain from changing the thread title, it's confusing.

Thanks for the reply, I'll change the title right now.

but this little problem still bothers me, as I'm wondering which file decides whether these variables work, the ini or the xml?
for those variables exit in INIEditorJA2Options.xml, they will be set as default values;
and for those only exit in Ja2_Options.ini, can I make them useful just by adding them to the xml file? or are they related with some other files?

this question may be silly but to me there are too many things to learn~
or maybe it's time for me to read some guides in the subforums of Modding, Customising and Editing now.

thanks!

The xml only tells the ini editor what settings there are and which ranges they have.
The only truly relevant files are the exe (which decides what settings to read and stores its own set of default values) and the ini. You can manually add a missing setting to the ini for it to be read. There's also an error log in your profiles folder, you can just copy the setting from there and add it in the appropriate section of the ini. Use a standard text editor for that.
