...as soon as a normal shot is heard, every enemy joins the mob that is headed for you. Granted, I don't do cold loaded ammo, and only now start looting AR suppressors, so it's not like I expect to go unheard. But still, I am currently on the third try attacking a non-town sector with 30 enemies (I have 10 mercs), and I just keep getting mobbed down. No matter where I enter the sector, I have no reason to leave my starting point as there is immediate contact, so once the first enemy is dead it seems all remaining 29 enemies come running. Twice I've worn them down to ~15, but the first time I got a sudden death due to some uninterrupted elite, the second time I got stun grenaded (hitting 8 out of 10 with a good 8 or so enemies in sight range, or close to it). All of this at night ops and 2nd gen NVG on my part, at least five if not 6 of my 10 soldiers have the trait as well. I am well set up with break lights and ammo, mostly fighting as auto/gunners (6 or so) with two snipers, using draw-fast 28-35 range ARs, which is plently given how far you can see. Admittedly the rushing is exacerbated by the fact that it's two sectors up from estoni (which is a T-shaped map with the upper part blocked, a rather straight line from east to west and a fairly blocked way off to south in the middle. My team enters from the east), but I recently noticed I rarely ever move away from my starting position and most if not all enemies will suicide run into my position where combined auto fire will take them down before they ever get a visual on me - which is sorely needed, because being spotted by a single enemy will get you sniped from across the map once the enemy forces have sniper rifles, so one surviving enemy who spots you means a redo of the sector. Even getting a breaklight on your group usually means redo, which could be changed by spreading out more, but I find I need 3-5 gunners per group to be sure I can take down multiples.

I have to wonder, is this just something I have to live with? It makes combat fairly boring (I stopped playing before having only meduna left twice on ironman now, so it's like I can't do it, it's just not all that interesting...). I'm playing ironman expert at the moment with NCTH and pretty much all new other settings except AP cost for inventory manipulation and food system. Oh, and also that this only applies to wide open sectors, towns with many structures are much easier. And I know I'll make it eventually, or flee the sector once I got half of them so I can save again, but I'm getting annoyed. Sorry, this is more of a rant than anything else. Anyone got some help for me? I'll check back tomorrow with a calmer head.

edit before tomorrow - stealth is not the right word. How does one prevent getting massively mobbed once shots were heard, is probably the better way to frame it. Now, to bed, will check in tomorrow.
