Does it have any function? Like reduce time needed for sleeping(if yes how much).. or something else? And if it does, does it needs to be in inventory, gunsling slot or held in hands (primary hand)?

If the item has a positive <SleepModifier> tag it improves breath point regeneration while sleeping so your mercs recover faster. The item only needs to be somewhere in the inventory. It doesn't work for mercs that are assigned to a bed (patient or resting in a facility).
