I haven't played this game in ages, but if I recall by endgame it was mostly 5.56 AK-108 for short range (russian ARs can mount the superior 8x scope, which makes them better) and G3/FAL/SCAR-H SV for longer range 'normal' mercs, SR-25 for snipers, HK 21E for machinegunners with a lot of strnegth (you need that 7x scope). Ammo is AP (what else?) and occasional match for short-range 5.56ers. Tracer whenever available anything automatic.
Ocassionally an athletic merc gets a rod&spring-ed FAMAS to go for those 20 AP triple headshot bursts.
Also Milkor GL with vacuum grenades.
But as that is > 3 years past, next time a few adjustments shall be made (like antimaterial rifles to take care of jeeps and shields [if the AI gets to play with those by then]) and taking Strelas along.
