Hello.

Awesome mod, really great! aww

I am wondering though how to make the camera that follows the action from above stop moving at enemy turns/intervals, ea how to make it stand still? (follow mode doesn't seem to work)

Now at every turn on the individual enemy movement the camera "snaps" from my mercs position of view, to the other side of the map where the enemy is moving, each time they make a move regardless of having an interrupt. Any way to stop this?; and:

How to enable 'follow mode', because now it doesn't do anything ea, it's not working as supposed by locking onto my troops, the setting is in turn ineffective. How do I enable this?

Is it possible, through any setting to modify game camera options further? (Like for instance to prevent camera snapping on newly discovered items)

Thanks in advance. not sure

Hmm, I'm not sure. But I think most of those are in the Preferences in the actual game. If you bring up the save/load menu, you should see also a Preferences button which should bring up 3 columns of choices, showing only 2 columns at a time, so don't forget to check the last column with the little arrow button at the bottom of that screen.

If you have the preference to Show Misses, you will get annoying camera movement, so I had to turn that off, but I don't think that is what you mean here. Again I'm only using un-modded v1.13 SCI 8633 right now. There may be some preference for tracking enemy movement or a follow camera, but I have not checked for that recently.

It does make sense to see an interrupt though, as you could get killed by such an interrupt. So I'm not sure if you can get around that, but I also don't recall it acting as you describe either. Might be I'm misunderstanding or not yet having long enough range interrupts by enemies.

I'll do a quick check in the Preferences and see if I see a solution.

UPDATE #1:

From Preferences I'd suggest trying toggling the settings for:

-- Show Misses (it could be this because show misses takes the camera to the shooter then tracks the bullet all the way to the miss, especially if it is more than one screen away from where camera is)
-- Tracer Effect for single shots (have to guess here that this might cause similar issue, tracer must be tracked, so again camera follows it from origin of shot to end location)

So the above could cause the issue, perhaps, during an interrupt that fires a shot. However, I have also seen the camera move to follow enemy movement during an interrupt if it is within any of your merc's vision. It should do that, otherwise you won't know where they were when they disappear and you lose valuable intel to guess where they may be. In the last case, you will see the camera move the map to include the interrupting enemy, but it normally will not center perfectly over the enemy.

Maybe also:

-- Old Selection Method may have some meaning, but I think it has to do with either right click vs left click selection for movement or choosing a merc. So unlikely.

*****

But I don't think these are the solutions probably. I'll check if I see a Camera Settings file in an obvious place next.

UPDATE #2:

I don't see any other place that is obvious for a Camera setting like you described, but I did not check JA2options.ini very carefully this time. I just know I don't recall seeing it about a week ago when I fooled with it for over 3 hours just customizing that INI, and another 15 hours customizing a whole lot of other stuff (what a pain, I dread starting a new campaign now. In the end, my customized MercProfiles with Flugente's Additional Mercs is messed up in the descriptions on AIM, so not sure they will work perfectly either).

I'm leaning towards your issue being more related to the mod you have, or whatever AFS is. But I'm a noob with mods. It is likely that someone with more knowledge will have to help you.

I think that these settings are somwhere within some cfg file for I have checked all available in game.options and to no avail. The cam keeps moving from my squad to the enemy movement at each turn they make, making it shaky, not that I mind necessarily.

Thanks for your reply though, for research and I'd say good luck with further tinkering ;)

These sort of games lend themselves well for nice mods and tweaking.

I must admit that I think you are right about it being somewhere else. I could have sworn that several years ago, too long ago, I had read something that dealt with it. But I could have just dreamed about it all. It was like some sort of constant centering crapola. Someone has to know. Good luck.

I've basically through playthrough figured out that button 'alt' does what I wanted to have; it freezes the cam preventing it from moving. big grin

Still I don't understand why 'follow mode' doesn't work and if anyone has any .ini settings for tactical view camera please do state so, otherwise: happy gaming thumbs up
