Wow. Thanks Zango.

I picked up the e-mail and then tried to figure out what java tools I needed to run it.

Then I thought of just trying it on my work computer and... it works. The original JAPE won't work on my office computer, but your hacked version does. I guess I've already got the right version of java on my computer for some office related programs.

I haven't tried the KIA feature yet, but plan to later today.

You solved one of my problems (getting JAPE to work) and next I will try the KIA feature.

I am currently playing Wildfire, and the extra damage that the weapons do (particularly 7.62mm) has had me re-loading quite a bit. Now I think I'll have an alternative to going back and starting the battles all over.

Well, I tested the hacked JAPE - and found it won't bring back a dead member of a squad (or maybe I'm not using it right).

Just saving mercs from the Philipines will be useful enough, and I appreciate having a working copy of JAPE on my work computer again.

It is great to have this tool.

Thanks again Zango.

i'll have to research - but work is keeping me very busy Sad

thanks for your appreciation Very Happy

Maybe there is more that I need to do.

I noticed that the two dead mercs had their killed status as 251, while the living mercs had status zero.

The two dead mercs were custom mercs, one was in a squad with 5 others, the second had been in a squad all herself.

I found that when I went back to the game, both were still dead. The one who was in a squad could still be re-assigned to squads, and had restored vitality and energy, but was still dead.

Effectively, I could dismiss the dead mercs but couldn't do anything else with them.

I suspect that the saved game has the status of active mercs stored a little different than the status of aim mercs.

Maybe if they weren't custom mercs I could have dismissed them and then re-hired them through AIM. That would be an interesting thing to try.

But that still wouldn't help with dead custom mercs. Fortunately, the two deaths were from deliberate fooling around - I wanted some dead mercs to try out the new feature in JAPE.

So I reloaded my back up of the saved game and played out the fight again - only smarter.

Oh, I forgot to say the obvious. I set the killed status of the two dead mercs to zero. And I set their vitality and energy back to an injured but still decent level.

I figured I'd get them back to some injured status and get them to a doctor for some care.

But it didn't work for me.

yes, i guess if you dismiss people who are KIA and then rehire them after resurrecting them (setting status to 0) - they would be born again. This would work only for the AIM/MERC mercs. for custom mercs, it should be possible to resurrect them - but the process would be more complicated - and would require me to hack jape yet once again. i would have to find time to do that - unfortunately time is oen thing that i don't have right now. Sad
maybe sometime soon. Smile

Az, i doubt a dead robot will get resurrected - catspam was unable to get the IMP back - and the robot is a similar entity. I can send you the hack and you can try it - but i don't promise you it will work Wink
otoh - i could hack jape further to resurrect custom IMP/robot and other fellows.

leave me a PM with your email.

This is off the topic of this thread, but there seems to be an implication here that Fox is not available in UC. I haven't d/l'd UC yet (I only have dialup), so I'd like to know if this is the case?

It's the 8000+ savegame, not UC. You can download the 8000+ savegame and in it, Fox is deceased. And since it's a save game, you can't really start over until she's not.
