Is there any good ways to keep the SAM's? Deidrannas elite forces seem to attack them as soon as i take over them.

And my fighting squad (3-4 merc's) isent good enough to stand up against thoose attacks, especially during day combat.

Wich is the best defense for theese sectors?

Yeah,on expert you can't always rely on fully trained militia to keep them...
My recommandation is at least 2 snipers on the roofs, with fully equipped M14,Steyr,FN-FALs or Dragunovs with rod&spring attached if you play a gold version(ap.6).One can be enough though, especially if you have some remotely detonated surprises for them.
Mines planted in sensitive entry points are also good.
And please tell me how you feel after blowing 6-8 of them using just 2 ap. for pushing the button of that remote detonator...

I totally agree. Once I take over a SAM I get 2 guys on a roof and the rest indoors with lots of cover. I also have my 2 mercs with the highest leadership train militia immediately while the rest stay on active duty. That way I can usually get 10 units of cannon fodder - I mean green militia - trained up before the counter attack.

When that attack comes, I take it very slow. Unlike when I attack a site, I feel no rush in dealng with the enemy and, taking things safe & slow and showing no concern at all for the canon fodder that may or may not wound some baddies, the conter attack isn't so bad.

After capture I train militia like hell. (Ira is usually on the team).

I've had some games where my reinforcement squad had entered the (allready liberated) sam-site but hadn't positioned themselves...
An attack came but the 3 enemies that entered near my Mercs were interupted and 1.65 were dead before my first turn Smile (I've been testing this a bit: really "directing" your mercs works better)
Placing Mercs on map-corners where there's rock-cover to lie-behind while keeping a firing line (corner = near 2 edges) does work, the enemies go after the mercs once you start firing. The militia moves in faster.

They're here ! Let's hope they don't wanna fight !
-Just press the dang button...

I don't know how to put militia on rooftops either. In fact I've never seen militia on a roof in any game.
I'm sure you already know how to put you're mercs on the roof though, right?

elite-milita is sometimes on roofs - but only if it is set up in the map's settings.

for example, h13, h14 and i13 alma, but there is no sam-map which has soldiers on roofs aviable.

Militia is generated on the spots the soldiers were when you conquered the map. so if there was a sniper enemy somewhere, there might be a militia sniper.

you can of course move soldiers on roofs using the mapeditor, then, a bigger number of your militia will spawn on roofs (off course, this also menas more enemies are on roofs in these sectors)

i used to follow the same tactics as you guys, but then i found it a waste of time, money and energy to train militia that was about to die anyway. so, if counterattacks are immediate, such as the one against the first sam site, my mercs wait in an ambush in the sector outside the SAM (they always come the same way)

my mercs won`t be tired and no militia will pick up any items i dropped in the sector, and the fight will be over much sooner.

yet later in the game, i would use similar tactics as mentioned above. some fighters like Ivan (he`s the best) with Burstfire fighting in the very front, while snipers such as reaper or scope will make use of long-range rifles to slow down or kill enemies spotted by the militia.

of course, your fighters must be placed outside the range of the first turn (as enemy often gets the first turn when attacking a sector)

enemy often lines up or assembles in groups, use grenades, lighsticks and stuff to take the initiative from them and give an advantage to your miitia.

Mercs ingame? you move to the wall, open inventory screen and klick the "ladder" symbol (is it really that what you mean?)

there is certainly some hotkey for this, but i often use inventory screen...

*edit* i mean Merc inventory screen. it does not display any hotkey informations, but id there is one, somebody around here probably knows

Walk next to a flat roof (not a gabled one) and drag you're mouse button up toward the top of the screen while left clicking. You should see a little ladder icon then he climbs on the roof. Leave as many mercs this way as you like. Of course this doesn't apply to militia as there is no way to direct thier movement.
You can also look on the interface menu (the one you get when you right click on a merc) to see the ladder icon. It will light up when you're merc walks next to a structure he can climb.

This can be used in combat as well with very effective results.

Or theres the really simple way of moving a merc against a wall (make sure merc is standing or running) and pressing 'Page Up' to go up and when on teh roof moving the merc to the edge and pressing the 'Page Down' button on your keyboard.
