Hallo Xubor,

The community got behind JA:F because it was seen as a good opportunity to have JA concept ported to a modern engine and a chance for the game to live on. End of discussion.

Who did the port it was irrelevant.

Lund's fault is going to Early Access without even asking KS backers if it's a smart move. He got what he deserved in return, but in the process made everyone hate JAF.

So the whole port was irrelevant.

@Xubor,

hallo,

Danke @Scheinworld! aww

Hello friends,

wish you all a happy new year. Sometimes between the years I look for news about Jagged Alliance.
Wow - a spin-off has been made. No one needed that, but ok.
But your article is so true in many ways. It is also true, that its a long article that would never happen to find its way on a huge games site. It should also be translated into english.

To start the year with a bit more optimism, I would like to add one consequence that came to my mind when reading your article. With JA:F we saw what happens, even when hard core fans try to help a small team of developers to make a new Jagged Alliance in 3D with, lets be honest, not enough funds. It will end badly even with good intentions in heart.

So what is the consequence?
You need to find a billionaire who loved JA2 and is willing to fund a HD remake with new game engine which can later be used for JA3. The remake will be truly 2d isometric, will use same voice and music with updated graphics, love to detail and could also add (then or later) a DLC to build new islands/maps and quests. I mean, at least you must make money at the end and the fanbase is getting older and smaller, who plays single player games on PCs? JA3 would be tough business. After the remake, perhaps, the game must be transferred into a new time for a new audience, like they did with star wars. So the son or daughter of some mercenaries must be introduced and will carry on the legacy later. So you need a new strong story that would be possible before a game is developed happy

PS: In your article I missed one thing about JA2. You can play it over and over as you can find so many sidequests and characters in Arulco that amazes me all the time. Hamous, if you find him you can drive a damn truck. Or the robot? Also the sci-fi mode which could be something else in JA3. Bloodcats and their sidequests, hoho. Easter eggs like sending flowers to Deidranna - who can believe they had time to do all this stuff which needed script + voice acting. Also these soldiers always commenting and talking what happens in the game. That is the unique charme that makes these pixels connect to you, not only the humour. They try to sell you that they are living with only so many trigger points and variants of sentences for each trigger. But each and everyone unique with sentences which connect background story, choice of words/tone which what happens right now on the map. Who could and would do this nowadays - a mini rpg/fallout built-in?

What can we change is only our mindset, so please someone out there do a remake of JA2, win the lottery and remake JA2 happy
Edit: And of course for me, some ideads and work of modders is still kind of remake, as some of the missing features in vanilla JA2 are hardly to ignore. In some HD remakes they also improved some things without breaking the game. With an editor later on modders can add even more weapons and stuff.

Somehow, after seeing 20 years of efforts, I feel like winning the lottery is the easiest part of the plan. big grin

Hi,

I'm new here but used to write in the German JA forum once in a while (some ages ago) - under the same nickname.

Nice article (besides the Porsche comparison).

But wasn't there an even worse mail from the developer of Flashback? I cannot find it any more but I am pretty sure that there was an e-mail in which he accused us backers as beeing the reason (for giving the game bad ratings on Steam) they would run out of money and that we needed to give it better ratings on Steam so they could make some money from selling (the unfinished) game and keep on developing. That mail really dropped my jaw back then...

In my opinion the problem was that they tried to develope everything new and ran out of money just when the real finetuning (which made vanilla JA2 so great) would have had to start.

But to be honest - as a backer you got a license for all the original JA-Games. That alone was pretty much worth the money I had backed...

" Easter eggs like sending flowers to Deidranna - who can believe they had time to do all this stuff which needed script + voice acting": I really could not believe it the first time I tried to send flowers to Meduna and the small sequence really startet...
