In "Items.XML", "Quality binoculars", I see

	<NightVisionRangeBonus>20</NightVisionRangeBonus>
	<DayVisionRangeBonus>100</DayVisionRangeBonus>
	<BrightLightVisionRangeBonus>80</BrightLightVisionRangeBonus>

What's the unit here? Map tiles or percentage?
Is this bonus added to the base visual range (like, during day your visual range is doubled, or +100 tiles)?

Also, what is the difference between "Day" and "Bright Light"?

1. Percents to base vision.
2. You can see bright light in tropical sectors, or maybe if you throw flare during day.

I see.

I don't really see how a flare can add anything to the glare of the multi-billion kilotons thermonuclear explosion in the sky though. big grin

Have you ever looked at fireworks? I'm thinking a sparkler, a fountain, or dealt with an hand-held signal flare? While yes, they are not as bright as the sun, the amount of light that they do generate, and the distance they are from your eyes compared to the sun makes them blinding.

Yes, but at night. Said sparkler/fountain would be barely visible in bright sunlight.
Anyway, it's not important: Since the setting is user-modifiable, everybody can put it to the value he deems realistic.
