I deleted the entire original post since nothing I said in it applies anymore.

Here's a new Win 10 fix I found that works perfectly on JA2 1.13 (both unstable and 7609 based executables). It uses CnCDDraw. Runs at full speed, doesn't crash on alt tab, capable of stretching the game from lower resolutions to higher resolutions and even adding shaders for scaling and other effects if that's what you're into. I modified the config a tiny bit and it should just work if you extract it straight to you game folder.

REMEMBER TO SET THE GAME TO RUN IN FULLSCREEN IN JA2.INI AND DON'T RUN WITH OTHER FIXES AS THEY MAY CONFLICT

I am going to try this. I moved my game from an I-5 to an I-7 Windows 10 machine and now it is so slow I can't play it. Also, does anyone know what you can transfer to a new game install from an old one?

I'm almost certain you can just copy paste the entire folder to your new PC and it'll work just the same. I think everything works by relative paths and saves are kept in the user profile folders inside the game's root folder so the game is completely portable. I keep the game in an external drive and can run it no matter what drive letter it is on any Windows PC (or on Linux with Wine).

The only thing that might break is the uninstaller if you installed it with GOG and the registry entries the installer made won't be present. That's no big deal considering you can just delete the folder to uninstall the game.

Thanks. I did actually run the game on my external drive on the new PC, but it was choppy, so I moved it to the secondary drive on the PC, but it was just as choppy there. What I wanted to try was a new install of the latest SCI which I could find, and dump my ja_options_ini and profile over, hoping to keep my custom characters. I don't have a handle on how their progression is handled or transferable to a next adventure, say like UB.

Someone64,

I ran this and it seemed to work pretty well for the most part. However, there seems to be a problem when the RED & YELLOW sector battle summary which comes up when you go into an enemy controlled sector. Should we be using the PERFORMANCE.REG mod or any of the others in conjunction here?

Also, asking to speed up the AI has the opposite effect.

Any guidance would be welcomed!

Thank you!

JP

Sorry for the late reply. If speeding up the AI has the opposite effect, try using the alternate INI file from the first post which runs much faster than the one I included in the main pack. It has some disadvantages as I stated in the first post also but it should help with speeding up the game in general and holding up the speed up key. It's the one I use since the one that allows you to run in borderless windowed seems to greatly slow down the game for me. The alternate INI file makes the game run maybe 2x faster for me so when transitions happen (like when entering a sector with enemies) it doesn't take extremely long.

Please do not use any other fixes in conjunction as they have a strong chance of conflicting with the fixes in the pack I included. Also the reg files are absolutely not needed since the DXWrapper takes care of all of those stuff for you without messing with your registry. I actually tried combining DXWnd (it even comes with its own copy of DXWnd) but it's really jank and I can't get it to play nicely.

Thank you so much, @Someone64, you deserve GOLD for this for sure!

A few screenshots showing how good it looks:

Make sure to use half the resolution of your monitor for best scaling.
I am using in-game resolution of 1280x720 on a 2560x1440 WQHD monitor.
For Full HD Monitor: 960x540

I've updated the config and the DXWrapper version being used. I think I've fixed some issues and introduced others. I think the benefits outweigh the issues, tbh. The performance gains are FAR better than the older config, though and it doesn't become unbearable to play anymore. You HAVE TO set ja2.ini to run the game in windowed mode regardless of if you want it fullscreen or windowed in dxwrapper.ini with this version. I can't get stretching to work and I have no clue if it's because of how the integrated gpu on the laptop that I'm using to test this (my pc broke down) is causing it or not. If anyone can verify this for me by turning fullscreenwindowed mode to 0 and fullscreen and forcewindowresize to 1, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I updated the first post to reflect these changes so please read that to get the full rundown on it.

Sorry for double post but I gave up on dxwrapper because I found something that works way better and with no issues whatsoever. I changed all the info in the first post and it's really as simple as extracting the zip to your game folder.
