For a good while now it's been bugging me that the JA2 UI is a hodgepodge of 4:3 elements glued together when most monitors nowadays are widescreen. As the lobot animations are nearing completion, updating the UI would be something I'd like to tackle. A good choice imo would be a new UI in 1280x720, since it would scale really nicely to 1080p and further on, and certainly better than the current 1024x768 one for resolutions that are not quite 16:9 but still widescreen.

I imagine this topic has come up before, and I'd like to get information on what would be needed to make a new UI for that resolution? New art obviously to accommodate the wider screen and codework to add the resolution choice, as well as relocating practically every single button the UI has. Is there anything particularly difficult that would be a showstopper or is it more or less just really, really tedious work?
