He is black. If you use proedit to look at merc's stats, there is a category that shows their race.

I thought he was white the first time I saw him. He kind of looks like actor Ray Liotta.

I had a feeling that he was black. But the first time I saw him (when I was just glancing through the mug shots) I thought he was white, then I noticed his skin tone, then his hair, then his voice, then his "brothers".

it's hard to figure out from Magic's portraits. You could always assume he's black just because Blood and Ice are his boys, but assumptions can turn out wrong.

in deadly games he wasn't black, hes the first reverse micheal jackson!! dam, in ja2 i thought he was olived skined (from greece or the mediterrainian or somewhere like that) and the same goes for ice he was originally white too. i had not clue what the hell blood was.

What a minute... I know for certain that Ice was always a black character. I always thought Magic was too, although it was more ambiguous.

Yeah, I think you're kinda way off here. Ice has definitely always been black. Can't remember Magic being much of a white boy either, much less a greek dude. Don't know why people keep asking, 'cause it seems quite obvious to me.

Btw, Blood is definitely black as well (ex-Black Panthers member, 'ello).

Btw2, regarding your sig; why would you want to pick a bear in the ass? Please, enlighten me.

I'm pretty sure that Magic is mixed, but mostly black. As you said, his figure was light in JA1, black in this one, and both portraits could swing one way or the other. Also shows his hair as a short, curly brown. As for his voice, he sounds like a younger, smoother cross between Barry White and James Earl Jones. Wink

If the character stats say he's black like DaveCA says, then that should pretty much settle it anyways. Wink

Personally, I blame this whole discussion on the portraits. It's the damn lighting! He's always got a strong light reflection!

So did I until I listened more carefully. Then I realised that it was a cockney accent (London).

But from what I have read, twice now, the Australian accent is essentially a cockney accent that has altered over many years. The two can still be easily confused by others nationalities.

On the Magic thing. I can't believe it took someone 3 years to realise that he was probably mixed race. Very Happy

i guess Magic had similar cosmetic surgeries like Michael jackson. But instead of turning white whilst being black originally, Magic had his face colour turned from white to black between jadg and Ja2 Laughing

i only play ja2 so for me i always considered him black. Mix race is possible as well, but hti sis not covered by proedit Laughing

i dunno I always figured he was black, especially with his accent, slang and voice. in JA1 (not sure about DG), I'm pretty sure his in-game character was black, and the old JA1/DG portrait of him made him look white because of a light reflection I think.

Seems pretty obvious to me that Magic is a black guy. His skin tone definatly should have been a little darker like Bloods. Besides the way he talks is a dead give away that he is.

I agree with MM. I can't believe it was ever in question.

What is lacking is better description of colour in the general world. "Black" covers a whole range of colours some of which are paler in complexion than a dark greek type for instance but which is technically down as "white". Makes you realise just how daft some labels are.
