Here is my list of DG:s useless mercs in order they appear in the AIM screen.

Bud

Reuban
Pops
Hurl

Postie

As you can see the list is pretty long. Luckily only one of them appears in JA2 (our beloved carrothead) Very Happy

I agree with most of it, but:
- Bud can be used as a second-hand merc, if you're in desperate need of $$$
- Kaboom can .. oh, wait, you're right, he's useless Wink
- Sparky is the best home mechanic in the game (and she's cheap).

Reuben is, ah, unique. I used to hire him once in a while and turn him loose with those hedge trimmers just for fun.

On topic. I agree that all of them are pretty useless. I tried some few, but never seriously hired them. Too sad that some good ones like Spike, Kelly or Leon didn't make it into Ja2.

I agree that Postie is an average fighter, but he`s is so unreliable and will leave you after he gets bored (like Malice and Leech Mad ).

Pops and Leon are good for their stuff.

It`s pretty challenging to kill enemy using Reuban with his hedgetrimmer. Stupid also :biglaugh:

I think Speck is much better mechanic than Sparky and costs only $80 more. Best reserve doctor is Bernie, no use for expensive Eli or such.

Also, there was no It on my list. I kind of like that idiot ex-wrestler and like he says he is "cheap and sure good for opening crates" Very Happy

I found rev to be useful at the beggining for one reason: Molotov. That is a damn good explosive. Most of the mercs in dg are completely useless and mike is just not worth it.

Ok here's my opinion of your list.

Wink - Useless.
Beth(not Mary) - Cheap doctor but crappy shot. Useful.
Bud - Mediocre shot and infogiver.
Moses - Useless.
Reuban - For fun but useless.
Pops - Great equipment in the beginning.
Hurl - Infogiver and great spy(Can take a lot of damage).
Biff - Hire for killing so you can stop M.E.R.C. from ever excisting.
Raffi - Morale-booster for Fidel. Funny too. Also a "great" doctor.
Weasel - Infogiver but just plain useless actually. Great armor-vest.
Lance - Useless.
Eli - Not mediocre but not useless.
Elroy - Useless.
Skitz - Useful for close bombings.
Wally - Cheap off-field mechanic.
Turtle - Sniper.
Kaboom - Smart ass h*ll - NOT!! Useless.
Rev - Pretty mediocre actually.
Sparky - Cheap off-field mechanic.
Postie - Can be used as a last resort sniper.

Personally, I use every single Merc you listed (and I do mean *use*, in a practical useful, actually comes-in-handy kind of way) with the one exception of Turtle.

Examples: I used Reuban to cut a path through the hedges and surprised my cousin in multi-player. I frequently use Hurl because he's a speedy tank scout (ie. gobs of health) and has the bar-none most hilarious multi-player taunts in the game. Wink is an expert thrower, meaning he lands grenades further and more accurately than other Mercs (Sidney does too, but I want a dedicated thrower). Bud is a suck-hole who will always join you even when all the other Mercs refuse (a common problem in multi-player), which will then allow you to hire Bob, thus giving you two half-decent Mercs and allowing you to have one last shot in multi-player. Etc...

In single player, since everybody just save/reloads anyway, then I'd tend to agree that the "useless" Mercs never get used. Because nobody ever dies and no mission is ever a failure and thus money is never an issue.

I don't know about Mike not being worth it. he always gets more kills when I hire him. I think he is a bad ass in DG. I had a team of Spike, Kelly, Hitman, Bob and Mike. Mike by far had more kills then everyone combined. For some reason he could get fairly close to the bad guys and not get hit but drop them like flies. Several times he has saved the whole team the was pinned down and getting caps in their asses while Mike dropped one guy after another and took far fewer hits if any at all. So I don't know, Mike has served me well. I have also done entire missions with only Mike on the battle field because everyone else was too shot up to go and had to heal. Hell he has even completed whole missions by himself with only HALF his health. I now everyone hates him cause he sold out in JA2, but Mike was a bad ass in DG and I was very upset that I couldn't play him in JA2 plus he sold out. Ah well, just my thoughts on the bad rap Mike gets.

I dunno really.

Moses is a fairly cheap sharpshooter, mine-spotter and would be a good mechanic if it wasn't for his terrible Dex.

And with his high wisdom if you could find a way to increase dex quickly he could be a very good merc.

Elroy is decent enough at repairing stuff if speck/sparky are dead or on assignment.

Postie, Rev and Bud are cheap and decent shooters.

If you are prepared to play the game at a slow pace, Turtle can be a great tool.

Eli is far too expensive for what he is.

Skitz is totally useless.

Kaboom is a good, cheap bomb guy but you have to babysit him during actual gameplay due to his terrible aim, i mean at least smoke has half a chance.

Can't believe I missed this before!

Beth is far from useless. With a few days of training, she can become a good shot and field-medic. And she tells you what's up with the team, too.

The only true useless merc, I'd say, would have to be Reuben.

well if you can make those worthless, costless AIM members get close enough of the enemies without dying and try to plant a bomb, failing and blowning hinself and the enemies up, them they're not "useless". If you know what i mean...
