I am sure that this is a frequently-asked question, but I haven't been able to find it on a single JA:DG FAQ.
I am--no surprise--short on money. I am slowly working myself into the black, but every windfall helps. It was a tremendous windfall to discover ~$140,000 "in cold, hard cash" during a warehouse raid. I mean by this that I found an "item" called "cash"; by right-clicking on this item, it was revealed to me that this item represented ~$140,000. I had noticed before that discovered money-items didn't seem to have any effect on my broader overall cashflow. I had never been irritated by the failure of the cash to make it back to my "account" until I "lost" such a great amount of cash at a time when it would have been so immensely helpful.
How do I transfer this found money from a merc's inventory to my account? I considered that my merc may have stolen it, but it seems like I've tried at least three different carriers for three different money-items on three different occasions, and none have made it back-- I forget who carried it the first time, but the second was Eli (a doctor), and this last time Ivan (the Russian). I assume the last two to be reliable, and especially Eli-- am I wrong in this assumption, or (as I suspect) am I not going about the proper way of retaining these money-items? The day after the mission, btw, Ivan's backpack space occupied during the mission by the ~$140,000 money-item is empty.
How do you transfer money from a merc's inventory to your overall cash account? Or do you?

Other guys that steal:
Mike: Yes, he actually does. Give him very much money and he will rob you. A lot of (non-)fun this is.
Jimmy: He is a criminal after all.
Ivan: Evil, ain't he.
Well, I can just say that most guys steal if they get too much money in their hands.

Some of the mercs I don't think are thieves:
Spike
Len
Kelly
Bud
Spam
Not sure though.

I've never gotten any notice that I'd been robbed. No merc has ever "taken a vacation" or anything. The money simply disappears.
Does this sound like theft or like a bug?
I'm not playing Deadly Games, by the way. This is simply the original JA.

i think that it has something to do with the amount of money a merc makes per mission versus the amount of money you give them to hold. if you don't give the money to a merc, sometimes it still gets salvaged, maybe all the time, i'm not sure though.

I have the same problem--all money I pick up is in the thousands.

Change of 0xC4 to 0xE8 at offset 0x78FF5 will solve a display bug for money in so-called version 2.0 (pre-1.13 non-CD version, that was popular as "abandonware" some time ago), though there is no actual reason to use it instead of 1.13b or later versions, as all other bugs fixed there will be present still.
