This is the deal, last time I had played JA2 was back in 1999 when the game was first released. There it was, JA2, plain and simple. Ok, so I played it for a while and it has been one of my favorite games ever since.

Ok, until now.

I decided to re-visit this game and downloaded it (shame on me, but since I once owned the original I'm not really commiting a crime Razz ). But now I'm completely lost between mods, versions, mini-sequels. What the hell is going on? I just don't know where to turn. I've recently downloaded JA2WF6 but I didn't really enjoy it so what do you guys recommend? I'm currently downloading JA2 GOLD which is supposed to pack both JA2 and JA2 UB right? What is the mod 1.3? Where do apply it? This is chaos and I just don't want to be missing out on anything so if you could, please tell me what to do. Thanks in advance.

This link will provide you with all the information and access to download of the 1.13 that you need.

There are also many other Ja2 mods that were released before the 1.13 that are also very cool.

I would advise you install the game a few times on your HD so you can enjoy multiple mods.

The 1.13 is not compatable with the older mods but will definately give you a new appreciation for the game.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks. But tell me something, the GOLD version includes both JA2 and JA2:UB? And is it UB retail version or is it a mod also and I have to install it over a JA2 regular instalation?

UB is an offical Sir Tech release that is a continuation on the Ja2 story. It has a feature that allows you to import your characters from Ja2 (with some stat advances) into a smaller but still very interesting campaign.

It isn't a user made mod but rather the next chapter (allbeit smaller) of Ja2 proper.

One outstanding feature here (along with the character importer) is that it has a built in map editor that allows you to create new battlefields that will even work with UBs existing storyline. But because the .exe is different from ja2 these maps are; unfortunately, not compatable with regular Ja2 without the use of a conversion utility.

Thanks again. I guess I'm going to finish UB first and then I'll look for some good mods for JA2. One thing at a time.

Sorry if I'm asking a silly question, but how do I install JA2 several times on my Hard Disk? After its installed, the program will not let me install again. I know it's a dumb question, so please bear with me. Thanks guys.

Wodwo_Crow.

1) Find your installed Talonsoft folder in the programs tree.
2) Re-name it. Keep it simple. Eg; Tasoft etc...
3) Remove reference to it in Start/AllPrograms.
4) Do this for as many installs you want, I have 3.

Regards.

When you install Ja2 (or any program) it will try to install to a default location. You need to creat a new Folder location for every install of Ja2 you use. They all must be named different.

Since autorun is normally the way Ja2 is set to install you need to insert the disc,

go to the drive where you loaded the disc (e.g. My Computer/D:)

right click on the icon in the drive.

You will see a bunch of different files

click on the Setup.exe

when it starts to install it will ask you where you want it to install to

the default location is

C:/Program Files/Talonsoft/Ja2

DO NOT let it install here

instead create a new location for the install

I normally put it right on my C drive and name it how I am going to use it once installed (UC Mod, 1.13 Mod, Ja2 Mapping, etc,). Then let it do it's thing.
Once you do this install you can navigate to your new install and make a shortcut to your new folder to make it almost as easy to get to as a desktop .exe.

Hope this helps.
