If you haven't already, give this a try. It's a really nice mod. I speak no Russian and I'm having fun playing it.
Gameplay - It's hard, but not impossibly. I was jumped by a 4 man elite squad in the start sector and had to do the "wait till they come round the corner" trick, but then had 2 nice weapons to carry on with. The guns might be a bit overpowered, but they're loads of fun. The shotguns were great until I found decent auto weapons. There seem to be a lot more bgs in fixed positions and less on patrol, so you spend more time rooting them out.My tip would be start with at least one good shot and several doctors as it'll be a while before you find any medical supplies, at least if you take the route I took. Also, I'm not far in, but there don't seem to be any repair kits.
Bugs - I loaded it straight over the top of UB1.01 and haven't had any real problems. I had one grenade sound CTD, but get those in vanilla UB. The only thing other thing was unloading 7.62 x 54 ammo and having it come out as Nato 7.62, which wasn't so bad, as I had need of that. The gun it came out of though was sweet and I wish I had more ammo for it. Some sort of auto capable sniper rifle.
Language - you don't really need an English version to enjoy playing it, but the following would be good, to get the most out of it:
* a brief summary of the initial emails, so you know what you're supposed to be doing, rather than just wandering around killing anyone who doesn't speak English and looks suspicious.
* a short description of each of the NPCs re what their function is and how to solve any quests they may be offering. So far I've found a barman and what seems to be a hooker hanging around on a street corner outside the bar and think they just gave me info, but I've no idea what it was.
* a description of what combines with what. I think I'm figuring it out though. Armour wise, there seem to be 3 grades and upgrade components for each. Strangely, when I added to upgrade to grades 1 & 2, the armour rating went up, but when I added it to grade 3 it went down.

At the risk of behing dragged out into the street, stoned and shot, SJ is a lot more enjoyable for me then UC. Personal prefferences! Theres nothing you can do against it! Free speech!!
Its just that, even on the lowest difficulty setting, UC has way too much bad guys in one sector, and the bullet train gangs have been giving me hell. If UC was designed for the elite JA2 players, then SJ is a lot more "down to earth" and well balanced, oppositoin-wise, and a lot more fun.

Ok, I;ve been away from JA2 stuff for a while, and started back with UC and WF (I have each on different computers for no particular reason). If I want to start this mod what's the best way to install UB and this without interfering in my existing UC or WF games? I can't recall if UB installs into separate directory.
I have JA2 original and JA2:UB original release, as well as JA2:WF (obviously).

hey fellaz
i'm the one responsible for the upcoming eng.ver of "Shady Job"
as my mates neyros and COBRA here already told you, we could really use some help with the eng.audio for our NPCs, since it will be particularly hard for us to make Simon sound french and Bennie sound british. and that's who they are, based on the MOD's legend. that was merely an example of the huge load of difficulties we have making the eng.audio translation.
as you could guess already, making an eng. audio for Gromov won't be a prob, since we dont hafta break our tongues while trying to imitate russian accent
the text-part of the translation will be finished till the end of May. i wish i could get it done sooner, but unfortunately, i have to work for a living.
btw, all the credits for how the MOD looks are reserved to our incredibly talented friend Gennady "Unnamed" Razhivin, since he undertook the whole designing part practically by himself, including maps-radarmaps, interiors, weapon skins design, and animated NPC\RPC portraits (that are AINT taken from anime\mangas, as someone here implicited. some of the portraits refer to real people, the rest are made from scratch by Unnamed).

Quote from Headshot Quote: agree with Wodan, there's no need to translate the speech from the Russian characters. They will lose their unique personality then.
Translating the E-mails, speechballoons from important charachters and maybe some items that are hard to figure out should be enough!
Lupus, If you will pursue the translation most if not all the french comments could be the original sound for Gaston.
I really miss his accent and would love to hear (preferably him) using it again.
Actually I agree with some previous posts that taking away the russian sound would also remove a lot of the flavor/feeling.
Translated texts in a word document, "Hint sheet", will be sufficient and then some help to interact with the NPC's.
I could do very well with a document with the translations.
We would have to "match" :animread: the russian text but that's no biggie, considering that it would save you guys a lot of hard work tampering with the game files.
I would like to, once again, express my ovations for the mod, it's really great!
