Um ... what's to like? They usually don't live very long. So, it's not like you can have that big a conversation with them and get to know them. Smile

Hey, man, don't you get my meaning? Judge from their faces!

Judging by their face? I guess Ray Baker, more or less..cuz he carries a nice RPK which makes Buzz very jealous, after all he is a male and he carries a nicer gun then she does Very Happy So she looks at his face and then blows it all over Balime with her Minigun :rifle:

I think that being "ambushed" by a few more people would be more challenging and a bit more realistic...I might regret saying that, but having them just step up and get blown away, wouldn't be as satisfying as having a harder fight.

Why not have the assassins use gas and stun grenades, maybe use hit and run tactics, have a sniper follow your mercs and ambush them from long range, maybe interfere with a key battle or something. I'd want to see more capability in their tactics.

I agree on that. The only ones posing a real threath are Olga in Omerta because of the surprise factor, but that's just the first time you play the game, after that you know she's there. And in Balime Ray Baker can be a problem if he gets the first shot at mid or close range, a burst from a RPK is a good way to deal with body armor :skull:

But all the other assasins carry handguns, a SMG and a AK74 and you see them coming from miles away and pop em off before they can see Hi.

@The_Sabre A sniper is an excellent idea. One with a silenced PSG1 or a .50 would certainly make things very interesting all of a sudden.

Imagine entering a sector and a message pops up "There is someone else in the sector" then it's up to you to find out if that someone is a recruitable RPC or one of Kingpin's mercenaries.

My favourite is Olaf. It feels like he can teleport, and he's the hardest. You can surprise Olga for yourself, but Olaf... he's not so easy, and I like him after all. Don't say that I am stupid, but I always let the assassins start shooting, like I wouldn't know that they are assassins.

How do you manage to dodge Olga? Argh! I hate that bitch. I patiently stalk through the sector on stealth so I can take it without getting damage, and she walks up to Grizz or my IMP and empties 7 or 8 rounds into them w/o a single miss? WTF is that? Thinking back, it's pretty funny to think of Grizz getting perforated like a postage stamp.. but man! I agree having more assassins later in the game would be cool.

In the late 80's, there was CRPC called "alternate reality," one feature in which was the ability for characters to have assassins sicced on them for their misdeeds. That would be a nice touch in UC or JA3.

I've just started playing DL. While I have to admit the first time I ran into Olga she damn near put my IMP merc down, I now have a tactic wherein I start shooting at her as soon as I see her. This causes the game to go into turn based mode so she doesn't get the drop on me all the time. After all, she is in a hostile zone carrying a gun so in reality were she to raise it anyone would start dumping lead at her anyway so I really don't see a cheating issue here. Besides, you do get that message warning you about assasins right at that time so.....

You run into these assassins in the original JA as well, right?

In regular JA2, you'll only see them if you steal Kingpin's money out of the mine and haven't killed Kingpin yet. I just did that for the first time in my current game, and the assassins I've seen so far have been a little different from what I remember in DL (e.g. there were two of them in Cambria where I've always only had one there in DL).
