Well, here it is. This patch attempts to fix all known problems in the first release of SOG'69 and even adds some features. Becoming-X is busy making holidays

Great!! This is what I waited for to play this campaign. Thanks to you and the others. From what I read so far this must be really good!

Edit: Hey thats a pretty fast server you got there. I just downloaded with nearly 1 MB per second, and that was a second actually! Thats maximum speed for me here.

I'm about to download SOG69 and I remember reading a post about the importance of sequence when doing so. I can't find that post now that I need it. so can anyone tell me the specific steps or direct me the that thread (assuming if that info is still up to date with current patches etc,). One last question, is there any uninstall/reinstalls needed in that procedure cause I already have every JA game curently installed on my system. I apreciate any help and looking forward to playing JA with a fresh look

hey slayer, when you start the patch it will (among others) throw this at you:

Step-by-step clean installation guide for SOG'69:
This should solve any 'strange' problems. Backup your savegames to continue using them.
1 install JA2/UB fresh into a separate directory
2 install the english 1.01 update patch
3 then install SOG'69
4 finally install this or a future patch on top of it
5 Start a new campaign fresh (do not import an old JA2 savegame) with 'Tons of Guns' set ON.

Not sure about the patch working with current campaigns in progress. I returned to both Betty's and sector N-11 after downloading the new patch and have not noticed any changes yet. The VC are still tough to kill with body shots also which makes me think the patch did not take effect with my saved game.

Not one hundred percent positive about it, since I did have alot of problems with the first attempt.

I may very well start a third campaign just to see if the patch takes effect.

Hey Trooper,

The patch (I think - haven't gotten there yet) fixes armor values in the final battles (from what I've heard, it sounds like the VC have gaurdian vests). If this is the case, you won't see the changes until the prisoner rescue mission which I believe is the final mission.

The other issue may be because the patches patch sectors that haven't been visited yet. Don't mark my words, as I am no programmer, but I think I read it on another post that if you have visited a map, the map is saved as such, and where you haven't as the map file hasn't been loaded, you haven't had a chance to alter (and thus establish a permanent inventory list).

Yeah, I know after so many re-installs, you probably just want to see how hard your skull is in relation to the glass of the monitor! :digit: :rulez:

This may be the effect of using 8 APs as base for rifles - no more boring "2 aimed shots per turn" routine as with the original set... Fighting like in the jungle, get down in the dirt and let go on full auto. Will look like a waste of ammo at first, but tends to give a slight advantage. Even the AIs use burstfire a lot with 8/9 AP rifles. And always grab the opportunity to use grenades if possible, things should improve quickly :ok:

No JAT,
Not a bug. Some mercs are too old to learn much of anything. This was mentioned in the forum befoe. Len Anderson is the same way.

I am unsure about installing SOG69. When I ran the auto-installer program it looks like it will place the program in my ja2ub folder which it seems will make it impossible to play other campaigns as others here have said. What I want to know is where do I install SOG69 while being able to play other ub campaigns? Also, how do I uninstall SOG 69?

Jibber,
There might be a way, but I would guess that like me, those who want to run certain mods - especially those as extensive as SOG69 - just have to bite the bullet and give up the others for a while. The other option is to have multiple copies of the game on your hard drive for each super-huge mod.

I have an odd question and the answer maybe a spoiler.

I have been through and killed every enemy in each sector up to the prison camp sector and down to the evac sector, at I believe D4. I have yet to find any files / maps / access info to get me down river to the last area of the campaign.

I just applied the patch after already being in the LZ to goto the prison camp. I returned the prisoners to the Fire base and they gave me alot of cash ( 20,000 ) but no info on how to get down river.

Did I miss something or what? If so where?

Thanks for any help. It has been a fun campaign so far and if I have to replay the whole thing I will.

Headshot
If you shoot them in the head they don't get back up and armor won't help ( much ).

Thanks Doctor.

I obviously haven't tried the patched version yet but I don't think the NVG was really needed. I played it before up to An Loc as pure night ops without any problems, actually it was pretty easy for the most part. Even without NVG a night ops merc will have a better sighting range and breaklights are available in large enough quantities.

Sure, you'll only get the free NVGs when you enter Tay Ninh 'fresh', as well.. But I've tweaked the pricelevels (smokes selling for $150?) a bit so that now they'll also serve as a convenient way to get most of Betty's money, otherwise it'll be a lot of items till she's bankrupt now Wink

The patch also brings slightly rebalanced endgame weapons and lots more tweaks - the guns are more unreliable than ever, grenades better. Definitely the better version of the campaign, there's about half a year of development between the release 1.0 and the patch.

So there's really no excuse for not having it on your harddisk Very Happy

The healing doesn't work in UB, and Dr.Vince got the boot because he didn't add much except archive bloat. Probably you've installed Jona's 'patch' or 'addon', as he calls it, but it is 'not recommended' to say the least...

I have encountered a bug in sector B-12 (I think thats what it is, its the north eastern part of An Loc city) where it freezes up on me in the middle of battle. It has done this twice and since I have Ironman mode on I can't save and reload around it very effectivley. I think it might be the shotgun reload bug but the second time it froze on me it was during a civillian's turn?

If anyone knowledgeable could help me fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated since I really love the maps of An Loc city so far. They remind me of the city in the second part of "Full Metal Jacket" one of my favourite Vietnam War movies.

Sounds strange.

Anyway, if I remember right, that sector doesn't contain any very important items...

You bet it's the shotgun bug. UB really nipped us in the butt there. So to bite back I have now put a new Patch 2 beta 1 archive up on my web page . This contains completely revised An Loc, POW Camp and Cambodia AOs (>30 maps). The change is that I have replaced all VC shotgun ammunition on enemies by 'harmless' items like Starlight scopes or gasmasks. Besides this there are no other changes to the maps or stats. I've tried to keep the same amount of ammo available by putting some extra shotshells into crates etc.

I still have no idea why the game does this, but it shouldn't be happening anymore now (I think). Please let me know how it goes.

I downloaded and applied the SOG69patch2beta1.exe and I replayed sector B-10 and it still froze. One thing I noticed is that it froze during the civillians turn again. Also in this sector are the civillians supposed to be hostile (eg. my troops think they are enemies). I have not shot at them or used any explosives and still as soon as I contact the enemy (or a little before) they always go hostile on me.If this was intended I wonder how you did this and why and if it was not intended then does anyone know why this is happening?

So if anyone can help me get past this sector without it freezing please reply.

Edit: I now see where the new helicopter has been placed and can transfer to LZ XRAY fine. Just a stupid error of me not looking at the tactical map very well :wb:

Has anyone encountered a lock during a merc's speech? It seldom happens but after a merc action and during his speech comment it freezes with the speech repeating over and over again. I can't say which action this happen after, but is this part of the infamous Bust bug? I have installed both patches.

I have a minor error to report.

The L1A1 rifle has a weight of 9.5 pounds. The FN-FAL variant is .4 pounds heavier. The L1A1 in SOG lists at 11 pounds. Imagine how many candy bars and cigarettes you're denying the grunts in the bush! :luckystrike:

Write for documentation of source material.

(See, now that's an easy thing to fix! No worries about changing source code, blah, blah, blah... Just thought I would add some trivia into the complaints. BTW, I have not had a single bug since I restarted with the proper patch, and Dr. Quack's patch loaded up. Perfect so far! Good Job X and Quack!)

Was the gun loaded or empty? That sounds about the amount the weight of a gun would increase if You stuck in a 20-rnd clip of 7.62N.

Uzi,
Actually, at first I saw my L1A1 listed at 14.9 pounds, but it should be around the same weight as an M14 (or lighter as the Brits used synthetic stocks for their versions). The 14.9 was with a full magazine and scope. Until I noticed this, however, I was kinda ticked off as I like those rifles (and had no M14's at that point). I was trying to figure out which weapons to trick out with my last rod and spring so weight was an issue, especially with a semiauto weapon. By the time I was done writing the post, I had seen my error in calculation and realized just how trivial my post had become so I just turned it into a thank you note instead!
:diabolical:

I was actually thinking of asking if the weight for the gun in the mod might have been higher because it had a wooden stock (in the picture) and it was to account for that. The weight I have in my books is for one with an empty magazine, so that wouldn't make up for the difference.

Now, whose up for digging into the molecular structure of an atom? :nerd:

SOG problem

Noticed that someone posted above that they seemed to get a problem during civilians turn in An Loc. I have had similar problem and managed to narrow it down as follows:

In those sectors where the civilians are "automatically" hostile (ie, you don't turn 'em into enemies by accidendentally killing/wounding one with air strike/LAW/molotov or whatever, they just start that way)I got a problem EVERY time a civilian appeared in a wheel chair. Now, if I managed to get a merc to shoot (and kill) the invalid BEFORE the next civilian turn, the game ran ok. But if not (or the wheelchair guy was only wounded) the game would hang on civilian turn each and every time.

As far as I remember, the graphic for the wheelchair guy was previuosly only used for Slay (I think, but maybe one of the other terrorists from JA2) and maybe its use is what has caused the bug. I got this in a couple of different sectors-basically anywhere civilians were enemies and where the wheelchair appeared. Also, to be honest, it only occurred in the game where I was using Dr Quack's pre-patch. However, as I've never seen this bug addressed previously, I'm assuming it's still there in the new patch....

I eventually gave up, because of some other freezing problem in the NW sector of An Loc that no amount of re-loads solved. Am now using the latest patch and everything running fine-but I haven't got out of Iron Triangle yet and so have yet to enter a sector with both hostile civilians and wheelchair-but I suspect I'm gonna see same problem once I do.
